Review summary

There were some kinks (poor internet, some cancelled and poor excursions), but overall we enjoyed the cruise and are glad we went.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
very smooth

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
dining on the ship was fine but not extraordinary

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The onboard activities were typical of this type of cruise. The fitness center should add televisions or entertainment screens on treadmills to reduce the boredom of staring out at the empty sea.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The stage shows were very good, the comedians were excellent and the shows elsewhere on the ship were very good.

Children's Programs

We did not bring children on our trip.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All of the ship's staff were friendly, well-trained and helpful.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The cabin was fine. Given the inherent limitations on cruise ship cabins as to size, our cabin was above average and the shower, although small, had good water pressure - something rarely found.

Ship tip

Be aware that the internet is sporadic in the cabins, but pretty good near the internet center.

Ports of call

San Juan, Puerto Rico

4 out of 5
We got to experience and earthquake which was exciting. Old San Juan is worth visiting for a couple of days.

Bridgetown, Barbados

5 out of 5
Our excursion, Harrison's Cave and Island Tour, was excellent. It was interesting, informative and entertaining.

St. George's, Grenada

4 out of 5
Our excursion, Golden Nutmeg and Diamond Chocolate, was informative and entertaining. The primary tour guide was excellent; the nutmeg factory guide not so much.

Roseau, Dominica

1 out of 5
Our excursion, Dominica Panoramic Drive, was a waste of time. They took us to 3 beaches where we stared at the ocean while the tour guides chatted among themselves. The "3hr, 15 minute" tour lasted only 2 hours and 15 minutes which turned out to be a good thing. We wish they had actually driven us all around the island.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

5 out of 5
The excursion we signed up for was cancelled. The replacement, St. Maarten Island Tour, was very good. Both the driver and the sights were very enjoyable.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

2 out of 5
Our chosen tour was cancelled. The replacement, Panoramic St. Thomas Island Drive, could have been very good but the speaker system did not work well so that we mostly heard only static and could not hear the driver. He attempted to repair the system after the first stop, but with limited success.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
smooth and efficient

If you don’t like staring at the ocean maybe cruising isn’t for you.

Glad you enjoyed most of it. The internet is usually spotty and slow. It’s best to just unplug and disconnect for a week. As far as excursions, independent excursions are usually cheaper, less crowded, last longer and are more organized than those booked through the ship.
