Review summary

We were pleased that the cruise wasn't too crowded. We had no trouble getting chairs by the pool which has been a problem on other cruises. We really liked the gym, the entertainment, the food and the pools. Overall, we had an excellent time except for one trivia game.

Embarkation

We got there early so there were no lines. We got on the ship really fast and lunch was ready.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The buffet was great and the main dining room was great. We didn't go to any specialty restaurants. I reserved 7:00 my time dining for my entire party of 9 before leaving but when we arrived on the first night, Royal Caribbean only had a reservation for 2. Luckily, they changed our reservation to 8:00 each night. It was handled very well but I think Royal Caribbean needs to check their computer system because I know I reserved for 9 - I remember going through and checking each person's name. It took me a long time because I had to do each night separately, so it was kind of annoying that I spent all that time and then it was wrong. I booked each night for 7:00 except one night for 7:15.

Schooner Bar

We loved the Schooner bar. The bartenders were fantastic and knew what you were going to order before you ordered. Impeccable service!

Onboard Activities

We loved the gym and pools. It was so nice that they had an indoor pool for colder weather. Our only bad experience was the Harry Potter Trivia game with Andrea. There was a tie and she should have awarded two winners, especially since there were so many teams. I think 18-20 teams. There weren't even enough chairs for everyone. The Schooner bar was packed. Several families told us our daughter deserved to win because she clearly won the first run-off question, but Andrea didn't like her for some reason and made an extra effort to award the prize to another girl. We think a tie would have been more fair and then both families would have gone home happy. My daughter quoted the book for the second run off question so it took longer to write down so Andrea gave 1st place to the other girl when my daughter's answer was actually more accurate. Now our daughter never wants to go on another Royal Caribbean cruise. We also participated in the Christmas trivia. Andrea did not make the games fun. The cruise directors made the other games like belly flop contest, egg drop contest, sexiest man contest so fun! My daughter's egg cracked so she did not win the egg drop of course and she was fine with that question. She just felt robbed of 1st place for Harry Potter trivia so felt this was very unfair. Andrea did not do a good job with the trivia games, although she was good in the origami class.

Entertainment

Ship tip

We were not sure we should have bought the drink package, but in the end, we were happy we did. It was a good value.

Our excursion was Mayadan ruins, tubing and cave snorkeling. The bus needs a better sound system. We could not hear the guide in the back of the bus. We liked the tour, especially the ruins. It was really cool that you could climb them. However, lunch was way too small. Maybe if they had provided snacks duing the day like they did in Cozumel, we would have been OK. But we had nothing to eat all day and they they gave us a tiny lunch and we had to pay extra for more food.

Our excursion was sea turtle snorkeling and cenote snorkeling. Our tour was fantastic! I loved that we were on a smaller van so we could hear the guide. Our guide was excellent! We saw turtles but it is sad that so much of the reef is dead. The cenote cave was beautiful and amazing to snorkel through. The lunch buffet was amazing and the beach where we had lunch was gorgeous! It was nice to spend some time on the beach. Loved the hammocks too!

Too slow and Andrea in the theater directing us was mean.

Wow. Some people take their Harry Potter trivia too serious. Was it really bad enough to put a cruise employee on blast?
