Review summary

This was our first cruise. And for a first cruise, we are especially pleased! Not much relaxing if you don't want to. Tons of things to do and see. And that is only onboard! If you go into port there is no shortage of tours and day trips. Or SHOPPING! If you want jewelery...this is the place to go! Shops are everywhere! We thoroughly enjoyed the eveing dinners in the dining room. I wouldn't suggest doing the late dining. It is late to eat at 8:30 and it takes about 2 hours. Makes for a long break between meals, unless you want to constantly snack. There are no shortages of food either! I suggest the formal nights. They are a lot of fun! Heck...every night was great! The room(stateroom), albeit small, were just fine. Lots and lots of storage. You don't spend a ton of time in there anyway. We were upgraded to an outside stateroom....that was a really nice surprise! It is nice to wake up and see the mountains and water! From the moment we got out of our car to the moment we got back in to go home, the staff were wonderful. Exceptionally polite. But not tacky polite. And fun to talk with to find out where they are from and hear their stories. I suggest to take time to get to know your waiters, wait-staff and room attendants. They work very, very, hard to make this big ship room smooth. We opted to not take any of the big tours on this vacation. The cruise was our vacation. I suggest to have that frame of mind, because we saw and chatted with lots of people that were constantly on the run and were exhausted. And a lot less $ in their pockets.

It was pleasant weather. Overcast, but not too hot or too cold. Cloudy, so we didn't take the Mt. Roberts tram. Wish we did later in the day. The town is quite beautiful. Especially if you walk outside and around the old part of town as well as the touristy parts.
Don't Miss: Tracy's Crab Shack for King Crab!!!

Skagway, Alaska

Great little, old town nestled in beautiful mountains and water. If jewelry is your thing...these ports are it! We still enjoyed going into all of the other shops. They did, however, tend to be the same stores as in Juneau.
Don't Miss: Red Onion Saloon! And their tour! Too fun!

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

This was our favorite! Spend a lot of time on the nature trail and the beach. Turning over rocks and seeing crabs and starfish. Loved the quite and peaceful place. Spendy lunch however...but good!
Don't Miss: The educational tribal show.
