Embarkation

We were met at the Athens airport by the Viking team and immediately transported to the ship. Once at the ship we were on the ship in 30 minutes.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

The food was outstanding. We ate at the speciality restaurant (Manfredi’s) one night but the food in the main dining room was so fine we ate most evening meals there. The World Cafe (buffet) also served high quality food. Viking isn’t know for a huge variety of food in the buffet restaurant but the quality is excellent.

Onboard Activities

Activities are limited on Viking compared to the much larger ships.

Entertainment

First, the entertainment is a two part review. First, the Viking singers and dancers backed by the Viking band perform the majority of the entertainment. This portion of the entertainment seemed to lack something. The band was made up of a keyboard (piano) two guitars and drums. While the band was good, they seemed to lack something-maybe a couple of more instruments -say a sax, trumpet, violin etc. The 4 singers/dancers were average. Second, Viking requires their cruise director and assistant cruise director to multitask. They were both highly trained vocalist-think operatic. They each performed one night and may be some of the best voices at sea. They were simply phenomenal. They had a non-Viking singer who was also excellent. In summary, the entertainment could use a little bit of additional focus, but all other aspects of the cruise overshadow the insufficiency of the entertainment. They have good in room movies for the nights the entertainment is lacking. Just sayin.

The highest praise goes to the entire Viking team. They give the utmost care and attention to the customer and it shows in everything they do.

Spotless in every area.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5

Cabin stewards were outstanding, and cabin was always spotless. Room size (we had a balcony as Viking only has balcony and suites) was adequate.

Ship tip

Don’t take a Viking cruise if buffets, partying and tons of energy is what you want. If you want high quality customer centric attention you won’t find a better value than Viking. They are an awesome team.
