Review summary

This cruise checked off a couple bucket list items -- Vatican Museum, Roman Forum, Pompeii. But we contracted COVID (probably at very crowded Vatican Museum tour), which required that we be isolated for 5 days in our cabin. More or less 1/2 a cruise. Book the pre-cruise stay in Rome for a hotel experience like no other. Worth every penny.

We spent 5 days confined to our cabin since my wife contracted COVID. Staff was very attentive and provided full menus for the restaurant. It was a downer to see the last several ports of call from our balcony.

Ship tip

Take advantage of the Chef's Table, the hydro therapy and the spa

Ports of call

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

Spent 4 days in Rome where my wife (and then me) contracted COVID. I'm pretty sure it was during the Vatican museum tour on Good Friday, which was absolutely packed. No masks in site. Resulted in being quarantined in our cabin.

Naples, Italy

Toured Pompeii, but found it difficult to keep up with the tour (I have 2 knee and 1 hip replacement). Tour is about a 5k walk. Our guide lost us 3 times. Still worth seeing.

Trapani, Sicily

Crotone, Italy

Viking Air originally scheduled airport departure for 6AM, which means disembarking at 2:45 AM. Make sure you pick a later flight.

Thanks for the detailed review. At least you were able to stay on the ship and the crew took care of you when you were sick.
