Review summary

I'd love to sign up a Chinese speaking river cruise in Europe but strangely nobody onboard could provide me with a contact number or email. It's a mystery to me why Viking makes it so difficult for non China Chinese to book such tours. Doing so will enable me to bring along my parents and their friends who don't understand English.

Embarkation

We walked 1 km as the shuttle bus didn't operate until 11am or so. That's what happens when we DIY our booking. Later I found out I could have hailed a cab but my research told me the cab wasn't allowed in the port. Strange.

Food and Dining

I absolutely love the World Cafe. It's casual and easy but the quality of the food was never compromised despite its popularity vs the full service restaurants. It even served a scallop congee that m mum will be proud to make. Although I appreciate the fact that the congee was served by the bowl I'd prefer to add the spring onion myself; the last one I had the server heaped a spoonful when a sprinkling would have suffice. The sushi bar served delectable snow crabs and sushi rolls too. Unfortunately I can't say the same for the fine dining restaurants. At the Chef's Table the Peking Duck was an absolute failure. The meat was delicious but that's not the focus for Peking Duck. The skin is and it was shockingly dry and tasteless. I was sceptical about Viking having the right stove, duck, condiment and skill to offer this demanding dish but the restaurant didn't offer a choice. The pad thai at The Restaurant would have make any Thai angry despite their sweet temper. Any street vendor in Bangkok would have served pad thai fuss free but delicious but Asian food is just not Viking's forte. It should stick to it's competitive strength in Western cuisine and make all guests happy.

Nobody on-board could provide me with a contact number or email on how to book Chinese speaking river cruises in Europe. Doing so will enable me to bring my parents and friends along who don't understand English. The Chinese diaspora is way further than Hong Kong and Taiwan.
