Great cruise with lots of extra value for the extra money above what other lines offer on essentially the same itinerary.
Very hard to beat the Viking format with headsets for all for walking tours and almost perfect organization of excursion gatherings and departures, wine at lunch and dinner, and almost all services on ship included.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Effortless transfer from pre-excursion to ship cabin.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
All very good and above average. Menus could have been more varied and sometimes wait staff struggles to keep up with open dining format instead of seating times regularity.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Great bars and calm music. Would have liked more options to see performances in theater.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
See previous answer about onboard activities.
Children's Programs
No children on ship.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Room steward, Anwar, above perfect. Always there and impeccable.. All waiters highly trained but some suffer from open dining rushes that stress ability to keep. Wish there was a seating time option for those who want it and the “same waiter” familiarity that comes with it.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Simply outstanding. I have never seen better maintenance.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Size pretty standard. Heated bath floor and nice sized shower with tile shelf a real plus.
Ship tip
Try all of the wonderful seating and drinking and conversational places on the ship early so you can pick your favorite. There are so many.
Fascinating visit to place not often visited but very crowded. Take the two day all inclusive tour and avoid own visa hassle. Passport control by Russian authorites at arrival port uniquely ponderous and reminiscent of old cold war documenting of every foreigner in country. Wait times and lines resulted on first entry. Quicker later.
Great to see modern Berlin after having lived there during cold war. Train ride scenary was nice but Viking rented train car old and not super clean. Since all excursions arrive back at ship from train at same time, German port security check point before reboarding was a goat rope with long lines and 20 minute waits. Attempts by ship staff to help German port personnel at scanners were rebuffed. And some of port personnel felt compelled to act out authority with overly ponderous removal of watches, belts and other things not otherwise needed at any other ports.
Nice little town worthy of half day visit, not of all day. Consequence of being in port until 7 PM is darkness obscures the most beautiful scenary of the entire cruise. Such a shame Viking does not restructure to leave Eidfjord at noon.
