Have been very pleased with the Viking experience, it's all about the destination. All tour guides are knowledgeable and provides lots of information. Food and restaurant staff are excellent! Enjoy the "smaller" feel of a river cruise.

This was our first river cruise although we have been on several ocean cruises before. We really enjoyed sailing on the Danube River as it was very peaceful and the scenery was beautiful. We loved all the staff as they were very personable and extremely friendly. They really made us feel special. Yes, we would do this again!

It was a good experience on the whole! The Viking River cruise experience.

The Viking experience is rather slow and not for those looking for even a lot of active walking. The lack of providing times, months in advance of departure, for entering and leaving each port make it impossible to plan your own shore excursions. Viking's Included shore excursions are very light and not informative. They are drive-by/walk-by tours never going inside of anywhere to do something in depth. The QuietVox technology for the tours, however, was outstanding and should be adapted by every cruise company. Overall the guides are not very good. They try to be comedians but aren't funny. Several guides told us over and over again that they didn't want to tell us too much information so that we wouldn't be confused; consequently we didn't get much information. The paid for tour of Schonbrunn Palace (Vienna) is rushed leaving you no time in the very complex, high baroque style rooms to observe the detail, and then hardly any time to look at the gardens or anything else. It's better to go on your own, get the audioguide and take your time; and the cost is a fraction. It's easy enough to do. Also, Vienna should be a 2 day stop as there is so much to do there. The wine tasting tour to Morwald Winery, on the other hand, is very worth the money and terrific fun. The Passau organ concert was a nice touch. It would have been nice for Viking to have provided lists of other concerts and things to do on your own if you wished to pursue them. The slow pace and the light information might be great for some but not for us. I have to say that every other guest on the cruise with whom we spoke was not going to take another Viking cruise because of these 2 aforementioned reasons. However, the greatest flaw was Viking's lack of honesty about what really happened at the end of the cruise, not announcing the loss of air conditioning, not apologizing for it and not explaining anything.

i reiterate the cruise was good for the price. but before taking it be sure to look over the amenities etc online or in the brochure. pay particular attention to what the ship has to offer to ensure that is what you want

We really enjoyed the cruise.  The tour guides were wonderful, very educational. The ship was not quite as nice as the last Viking ship we were on but the food and staff were wonderful. Also, Melissa from was very helpful and responsive.

The crew on board loves their job.

Stateroom is very clean and size similar to ocean liner

Food is exceptional and regionalized as we travel

The local tour guides are excellent.

Improvement

Arrvial experiences.  No meet and greet at the dock

Better communicate on arrival docking.  6 ships in Budepest no one knows where you dock.  You could have send out a email.

No one answer the phone # provided in the cruise package

Better entertainment.  The piano player could be a one man show like on the cruise ship rather than back ground music. The regional show is poor lounge is half empty.

Do more activities on top deck.

Have some low impact exercises equiptment available.  Like yoga mat, bar bell, cords etc.

Need better TV selection.  Some American channels

Your air travel department should be rename NO NO NO. And additional fee 

The tours were excellent. 

 We had an excellent Viking representative Carmo meet us in Munich 

We had a problem with our luggage arriving at the hotel and Carmo worked on the problem until it was completely resolved within hours

 The hotels in Munich in Salzburg we're both beautiful 

With all the unrest in Europe, we were unsure as to whether or not we should cancel our Danube Trip.  After a month of discussion including talking with Viking representatives who convinced us that their security was top notch we decided to continue with our plans.  What we found was that there is no security on the boat!  Anyone can get on the boat.  At times we were connected to other boats and you had to walk thru the other boat in order to get to shore.  Not the security we were expecting.  With that said, we felt pretty secure at the places we visited.  The Danube is beautiful!  The tour guides were knowledgeable, but sometimes talked way to much.  Most people spoke English and if someone didn't you could always find someone who did.  The food on the boat was okay, but the food on shore was wonderful.  We found several restaurants that were less "tourist spots" that were fantastic!  You will not leave the table hungry and the price is reasonable.  The Danube and Europe was five star!  The Viking river boat was average - rooms were small, but we knew that, the food selection was limited with no room service, but we knew that, drinks were included during meals, but after getting your first drink you never see them again, the excursions were informative, but at times a bit to long, the people were friendly, but at times abrasive, we thought we were going to Salzburg, but they changed the itinerary, there was an odor of sulfur every time we docked - not pleasant.  With all that said, we came back very happy that we went.

Ports were amazing but the thing besides the smooth experience was the exceptional people that working on the viking legend.  That is what made is super for us.

Seven nights of greatness.  Each day was filled with new villages and ports. Food was superb! The staff one of the friendliest we have encounter on our total of third river cruises. Mihai, Flav, JP, Armando, Esteven, Miranta, Evita to mention the few. We had plenty of water in the river, as the weeks prior had to be bussed because of low water in the Danube. However, we did have two weeks of rain!  Not cold, but rain.  Vienna concert was great.  The ship made an effort to arrive in Budapest before bedtime so we could see the lights. Beautiful.  The only downside, not enough free time in Salzburg.  

Legend ship fine, Prestige ship very bad room acoustics, could hear someone talk and cough. very distrubing when trying to sleep
