We were going to book another Viking cruise on board the ship, but chose not to book. Our poor experience on this cruise has made me wonder if Viking is lowering their service levels, but still charging premium price.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
The ship left on time. Not the usual hoopla the Viking has done on previous cruises to celebrate the embarkation.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
The included wines, especially the red, were substandard. The whites were hit and miss as far as quality of wine.
On the other hand, the food was fantastic. Very slow service to get the food in the pool area. At times, the food was undercooked due to too few of chefs and too many people.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
The spa area is a wonderful area to enjoy. The fitness room is also good too. Besides that, the onboard activities were fairly limited. We participated in baggo and that was fun.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
The performers Viking hired restrain out of school and average quality. They had big hearts and worked hard as they had many shows to do. The cruise director loves to sing Italian tenor songs. It got a little old after a while.
The best entertainer was the guitarist. The nightclub deal weren't too bad either. I especially enjoyed the tango show.
Service and Staff
2 out of 5
One thing that's very noticeable is the service in the restaurants whether the buffet or sit down was very poor. It certainly isn't up to the premium price and Viking standard pre-COVID. I mentioned mid cruise about the poor service levels. The result of that was my husband and i's picture on a poster with the comment that I made in a constructive manner. I felt like I was on the FBI most wanted list. I made the comment to get them aware of the fact that things weren't working well. They had asked for feedback and I provided it.
Very poor handling of feedback. We should have been anonymous to the staff with respect to our feedback. The officer in charge of restaurant operations approached us in a sit-down restaurant in front of many other customers and asked about our experience given our feedback. It was very embarrassing for me to have to explain in a public setting our feedback.
It was obvious this was a restocking or refueling port. They hauled us for an hour for the included tour to some place to have tea and food where the toilets didn't work.
