Review summary

This would have been a perfect week had we made the embark in Miami. The VV team on the ground was not helpful. We missed the ship and spent extra time and monies to fly into Puerta Plata to finally embark.

Thanks for your review! What a bummer missing the ship. I always worry when we have a flight day before. Florida weather is unpredictable months in advance when you book your flight. I would feel better 2 days in advance, but costs can be outrageous, so…

How do you expect others to wait for just you. Ships, like airplanes, trains, etc… have to stay on schedule for logistics purposes. Next time fly in the day before.

We ALWAYS fly in at least one day before the ship leaves. Living in the Midwest, we now fly in a couple of days before.

Your ship has over 2,500 passengers and you want all of the others to wait for you? Next time, fly in the day before, protect your investment and have a more leisurely vacation. Whatever monetary loss you incurred was tuition for Cruising 101.

It is not that simple for the ship to wait for you. They would incur extra fees for docking and labor. And inconvenience the rest of the passengers.

Always fly in the day before to avoid missing the ship.

As stated before, extra pier time costs extra money and the union overtime is a killer. Plus, there are legal ramifications with the government for late arrivals. When we do same day travel we try to arrive before 10 AM, preferably 9, and only do it for flights under three hours and flying west. That gives us a buffer for the potential delays.

Unfortunately, they can't hold up a ship for late flights. They pay more to stay at the dock. And with so many ships are moving around, it is a strict schedule. Note to self...fly in the day before.
