Overall a nice relaxing trip but the ports of call were very lame.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
We had 10 AM arrival time and the check in was fairly smooth. I did have my multi-plug unit taken away even though Amazon and the reviews said it was ok for cruises. There was a delay for the people getting off the ship which delayed our entrance to the ship. We head straight to our muster station to check that requirement off the list right away.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
We ate dinners at MDR, with breakfasts and lunches at the Windjammer. There’s something for everyone including for 2 picky teenagers. We did go to Hooked for lunch on day 2 and that was fabulous if you love seafood.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
There was a lot of activities going on at all times but we decided to just chill on this cruise playing lots of Rumikub. The shows were great and we didn’t miss one.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Shows were top notch but I thought Hairspray show was a bit mature for a family audience. Be prepared for some sexual innuendos. I saw a minister and his wife left the show right after one of the crude jokes. The diving show is good, but I thought the diving shows for the other Oasis class ships were better (I’ve been on Oasis, Allure, and Harmony). The ice skating shows were the best we saw of all the Oasis class ice skating shows (one show even had drones). We never made it to any of the headline comedy shows.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Impeccable service from everyone on board, including Captain Johnny (whom we met on the Harmony). With the storms approaching our ports of call and debarkation port, he constantly updated us on what’s going on and what they plan to do to avoid the storm.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
As a fairly new ship, the condition of the ship was great. Unfortunately, I believe some people may have damaged some art work hung on each deck (at the stairwells).
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
We were in 10725, Boardwalk balcony. The cabin was fine for 2 adults and 2 teenage girls (the girls
slept on the sofa and trundle). The only negative would be that the abomination that is called the Abyss’s purple tubes blocked most of our views of the water show. I never understand why RCL added that attraction. It is not attractive and takes away from the view from the boardwalk balcony cabins.
Ship tip
Don’t miss the parades (there are 2 of them). They are colorful and fun and you get to see the entertainers (ice skaters, etc.) rolling their eyes at the cheesiness of having to participate in such events.
Due to the storm, RCL changed our Nassau stop but it was a holiday so several places were closed. It was just as well because my gang complained that it was too hot to walk around there. We had no excursion planned as we have been there several times.
The only negative is that RCL stated that anyone under 14 cannot go to the waterpark alone. Therefore, I had to buy a ticket even though I had no intentions of doing any of the waterpark activities. The staff never even bothered to check my daughter or her BFF’s age to even require me to enter the waterpark with them. We found some beach chairs nearby so I can sit with my elderly mother and let the girls spend time in the waterpark. They were back within an hour because they said the lines were too long (there were 2 ships in the port).
We walked off at 7:30 am for self service and everything went smoothly. However, I was not expecting to have both Uber and Lyft be so difficult to get a ride. We had 3 drivers canceled on us who were nearby and one had to come from further away to pick us up. Next time I leave out of Cape Liberty, I think we will get a traditional taxi instead.
