A great cruise on the Star Princess

Sail Date: December 04, 2015

Room Type: Balcony

Overall we had a terrific cruise on the Star Princess from Los Angeles to Santiago, Chile.  We had exceptional service from our Room Steward and Dining Room Servers.  The only thing that was lacking was the organization of the Shore Excursions.  Strange that this would be so disorganized given that cruises have multiple shore excursions on all their cruises.  The staff would blame delays on all outside factors such as immigration policy of the port-of-call, traffic in the harbor or the port limiting the number of buses allowed into the port.  We believed these excuses initially, only to discover from other passengers or our own observations that these excuses were lies.  If the staff is going to lie about the causes for delays and disorganization, they need to come up with better lies in the future, lies that can't be uncovered by the passengers.  The passengers aren't quite as stupid as they think.  This reflects poorly on the Captain of the Star Princess.

Cabin / Stateroom
Embarkation and Disembarkation
Everything was very smooth for us, but we later spoke to our ship dinner companions to learn that they were not given luggage tags and were told to carry all their luggage off the ship themselves. They are an elderly octogenarian couple who have Princess Elite Status. We saw them at the airport with 4 large suitcases. How were they supposed to carry all that luggage off the ship by themselves? They have Elite Status. Is that how Princess treats their repeat customers?
Ship Quality
Destinations and Excursions
We enjoyed most of the ports. The tender service in Nicaragua was beyond horrible. We had a shore excursion that took hours just to get off the ship yet those without shore excursions got to shore on tenders immediately. Every excuse the staff gave for the delay turned out to be lies. If immigration was a problem, then how were other passengers on shore immediately? And there was no traffic in the harbor as we were told, when we finally went ashore in a tender.
Onboard Activities
Evenings show were varied. Movies, sports were good, but we missed having more lecturers during the day.
Service and Staff
We had great service from our steward John and our dining servers Katerina and Jeffrey. But the staff handling the shore excursions and blaming everyone outside of Star Princess for Star Princess' disorganization makes themselves and the Captain look bad. Also service at the Intenet Cafe was horrible. Why bother having "service"? No service at the Internet Cafe would have been an improvement over the disdainful attitude we all received from that jerk of a clerk at the Internet Cafe.
Food and Dining
Most of our meals were great.
San Pedro (Los Angeles), California
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua
Tender service for those with shore excursions was terrible. Those not on a shore excursion had great service however.
Puntarenas, Costa Rica
Callao (Lima), Peru
General San Martin (Pisco), Peru
Skip this port, nothing worth seeing. We went on the winery shore excursion, it was okay but I don't recommend it.
Coquimbo (La Serena), Chile
Valparaiso (Santiago), Chile
