Alaska Cruise on Star Princess

Sail Date: May 23, 2014

Reviewed: 3 years ago

Traveled As: Family (young children)

Room Type: Oceanview

Overall I would rate this cruise as being superior to other cruise lines i have taken over the years. The food was very good and plenty of it. The staff were very helpful and respectful at all times. I found the cabin to have excellent layout with very efficient use of space.  A large closit with plenty of hangers was wonderful and nothing had to be left laying on the bed. In addition, the closet area had a nice rack of storage pockets with plenty of room for all the sweater and little things etc. The bathroom was also well laid out and a cut avove the competition.

My only complaint was the very poor value for the Buschard Gadens shore excursion. The bus left for the Gardens 20 mins. late and after reaching the gardens we were told by the driver we had less than two hours to get back on the bus. I don't know what all the rush to get back to the ship was about, but we arrived back on the dock with 2 1/2 hours left befor sailing. My family spent almost $400 on this tour, only to have our day ruined by trying to run around the gardens, but sadly, we did not see much in the short time we were alloted. As a veteran of over 30 cruises, I have seen it all and would definately reccomend this cruise to anyone.

Ship Quality
Food and Dining
Five star, well above average
Service and Staff
Very helpful, clean and kind
overall, slightly below average, but the puppet show was extremely funny and made up a lot of ground
Children's Programs
we travelled with an infant
Onboard Activities
Overall, a little below the competition, but the puppet show made up a lot of ground as it was extremely funny
Destinations and Excursions
Good choices, except for time in Victoria was too short to take advantage of that lovely City
Cabin / Stateroom Best layout of the major cruise lines
San Francisco, California
Get there a day or two early to enjoy this great city
Ketchikan, Alaska
Don't you dare miss the lumberjack show, you may never get the chance again.
Juneau, Alaska
Best view for picture taking from the top of Mt. Robert's tramway. Wonderful
Skagway, Alaska
Now you finally have the chance to travel the great White pass and Yukon highway up by bus and return be the train. You will take ten time to pictures you thought you would. And don't for get to take the dog sled ride for fun.
Cruise Tracy Arm Fjord, Alaska
Yes. the scenery is the most beautiful anywhere in the world and I have been everywhere.
Victoria, British Columbia
No enough time in port to properly see all the city has to offer. best bet is to take a downtowon tour of the "old" city.

To get around the crowding at dining on the 14th floor for breafast or lunch, just go relax in the main dining room and be served a wonder meal in a relaxing environment with fighting for a table on the 14th dining area.
