Review summary

This was our first cold water cruise. We have always gone to the warmer climates. I had no idea what to expect. It was amazing. I would recommend it to anyone. Alaska is stunning & something to see.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
This was the best embarkation ever! We stayed in Seattle the night before at the Hampton Inn. Got to the pier by 10:30am and basically breezed through everything. I am elite so we were the first people to board on the ship. It was awesome!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food in the MDR was very good every night but one for me. I think it was more of a preference thing not that the food was bad it was just not to my liking the way it was prepared. If you like fish the Alaska cruise is for you! We had excellent fish almost every night. The buffet is so so not my favorite. Ate one evening at the Crown Grill & it was not great, a real disappointment. Our service was terrible in the crown grill made the meal regrettable. Our servers in the MDR were some of the best we have had at sea. Just fantastic, they made our trip!

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Our grandkids made good use of the pool everyday. That as a lot of fun.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Only caught a band playing in the explorers lounge one night. They were very good.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everyone on this ship (except the crown grill) went above and beyond. We really felt like we were part of the Princess family. It was awesome.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The Star is not new but she is a nice ship. We were on her in 2016 before her dry dock & the improvements they made really spruced her up! I would sail on her anyday anywhere.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
ThIs is a mini suite and it was very roomy. The suite itself is seeing some age. The carpet was worn and the couch needs to be replaced. It was very saggy. Our teen slept on the pull out & said she preferred the Pullman’s. I don’t think an adult would be very comfortable on the sleeper couch. The bathroom has a tub so that was great for our granddaughter to come over and use. The balcony is very large. We spent a lot of time on the balcony watching whales and especially the days we were in the fjords.

Ship tip

Just relax and have fun!

Disembarkation

We opted to be first off and take our own bags. The only issue was our transportation was just getting there. But that was our fault not anyone else’s. We were off ship and back in our car faster than any other cruise we have taken.

On our 2nd Krooze to Alaska we went on the Star, 7 days on land and 7 days at sea. We were fortunate to have booked the largest room on the Ship. Don’t think we’ll ever be able to do that again ! We had a very good time, great ship and met lots of fine people. Entertainment was excellent!

We are taking our first Alaska Cruise R/T out of San Francisco on Star July 2-12th. We had booked a regular balcony on Deck 14, towards the front. Princess upgraded us to a mini suite on deck 9 ( Dolphin) I think 525 ( mid aft) and is throwing in 2 bottles wine, free specialty dinning, free WiFi up to 4 devices for all 10 days, onboard spending credit All for free and got a small refund. I called princess last day of their sale and promotion was Less then what we paid originally. #Winning

So glad you had a good time. We are going to finally do Alaska in late May. Do you have any recommendations for the ports. I would like to salmon fish at one port.

Glad you enjoyed it. We have been to Alaska twice and are planning our 3rd trip. I hear many say they have no interest in going, but they don’t know what they are missing. Most who go say it was their favorite cruise.
