If you are considering touring this part of the world, I would suggest taking a cruise ship through the Norwegian fjords. But Iceland is really much better seen with an inland tour. The towns the ship docks at are very small and you have to take long bus rides to see the sights. Save the long busrides and the expense and do Iceland by land instead of sea.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
They are extremely well organized. You are given an individual tour of your cabin with any questions answered.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
Food was always excellent, extremely well presented, garnished, and fresh. Breakfast was generally the same everyday, so it would be nice if they would put more variety into breakfast, although they do change certain baked goods on a daily basis. Steak house was excellent. Regular dining room food was great. You are allowed to bring your own wine and drink it during the cruise.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Minimal activities, no rock wall, small pool, small but modern fitness center. This is a small ship primarily for adults.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
No stage shows except the last night crew show- which is very good. There were 2 musical groups who performed regularly on board, they were pretty good. No fancy shows.
Children's Programs
No child programs- this is not a ship for kids.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Can't say enough about personal service on board. They learned your name and your likes and dislikes rather quickly.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Everything was well maintained and very clean. Constant air circulation throughout the ship.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Cabin was very roomy, quite large for a ship or even a hotel. Walk-in closet. Double sinks, large queen size bed, full sitting area with sofa and 2 chairs. Large window. Rooms are cleaned 3 times per day.
Ship tip
The excursions are expensive. Those with more experience on the ship generally booked private excursions with local companies instead of booking through Windstar and saved a lot of money.
Just returned from the July 2nd sailing on Star Legend Reykjavik to Reykjavik . We visited most of the same ports in Iceland as you did . Did not want to write a full review as I am not a verified user whatever that means no I guarantee I did go on the cruise. Agree with most of your comments regarding the ship and service. We are seasoned Travelers and usually never book any excursions off the ship. After extensive online research we could not find any particular tours in these towns that we wanted to take certainly no private tours. We booked excursions with the ship and each town. They were perfectly adequate so yes driving times were slightly long. We did however manage to say almost all of these sites we wanted with adequate time at the sites. As far as price goes who cares we're not there to be on a budget. We also did four days in Reykjavik pre-cruise and were able to get tours of the entire Golden Circle the glacier the Blue Lagoon and other sites. While driving the Ring Road May afford more sites and time certainly taking the cruise was wonderful as we did not have to drive.
