Review summary

We had a wonderful cruise. We were fortunate to have perfect weather (no rain and mild temperatures, usually in the 70s), excellent food, great service from the crew, a wonderful butler, and outstanding entertainment, particularly for a ship of this relatively small size. The only real downsides were losing many hours of sleep sailing from west to east, and poor Internet service (which Regent says will be corrected by the end of 2024).

Embarkation

Boarding went very smoothly with transport from the hotel included.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The food was excellent in all locations, and it was a pleasure to see that our favorites were all still available and as tasty as we remembered from our last RSS cruise. Regent is unique in the industry in that you can have lobster or filet mignon every night somewhere on board if you wish. The tempura lobster and the soft shell crab in Pacific Rim are two of our favorites. The filet and lobster combo was also great in Prime 7. The pool grill is a cut above similar offerings on other lines with excellent burgers cooked to order.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Trivia was a lot of fun and a great way to win Regent points for redemptions on the last day. The small infinity pool at the back of the ship is a welcome feature that is usually quiet and restful with a fantastic view.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Regent is doing a great job with their entertainment and has continued to maintain high standards while other lines are cutting back. There was a full production cast of 12 excellent singers and dancers backed up by a seven-piece orchestra of very talented musicians. The young piano player, Porter, was particularly noteworthy and even played two keyboards at the same time for one show. Remarkable.

Children's Programs

No kids.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The service was excellent for the most part, although there were some delays on a couple nights.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship looked to be in great condition and very clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We loved the Splendor Suite with its two bathrooms and a large and comfortable living room. The closet was huge and had plenty of hangers, drawers, and shelves. The night stands had the most storage space we have ever seen in a cabin or even a large hotel room. The main bathroom was large and comfortable with two sinks and plenty of storage space. We also enjoyed the large balcony with two chairs, a table, and a chaise lounge. We ate outside more than once. The desk was large and easy to use. The only negative is that the light switches are a bit complicated to use to get just the lighting you want.

Ship tip

Check out the small infinity pool and lounge chairs at the stern just behind the spa for a quiet space with great views and shade.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida Did not visit port

We arrived in Miami the evening before the ship's departure, so we had limited time. I did get to attend Easter Vigil services at a Catholic Church that was within walking distance from the Biltmore Hotel we stayed at, and the church and the service were both wonderful. It was the best church choir music I have ever heard.

Royal Naval Dockyard, West End, Bermuda Did not visit port

High seas and strong winds prevented the ship from visiting this port. The Bahamas was substituted, and we enjoyed our visit there. The rum cakes were special.

Horta, Azores Did not visit port

High seas and strong winds prevented the ship from visiting this port. Madeira was substituted, and we had a great visit there instead and travelled to the island's high point with tremendous views.

Cadiz (Seville), Spain

5 out of 5
Very interesting and worthwhile port with a fascinating history as perhaps the oldest city in Western Europe and an important trading port for many centuries. They also have impressive fortifications and city walls that enabled the city to avoid capture by Napolean's army in the 1807-1814 period.

Motril (Granada), Spain

4 out of 5
Motril itself does not offer much of interest, but we took an excursion to a lovely mountain town named Frigiliana that offered great views and included a really delicious lunch.

Alicante, Spain

5 out of 5
Alicante is a beautiful city with an expansive and impressive, palm-tree-lined boardwalk that may be the finest in all of Europe. It is 700 meters long and made up of 6.5 million fine pieces of marble that have been hand placed. The city also has an enormous and well-preserved fort or castle on the city's highest point that enabled the city to successfully avoid capture by Napolean's army, just like Cadiz.

Barcelona, Spain

5 out of 5
We stayed an extra five days in Barcelona and had great weather. The city is absolutely gorgeous with beautiful buildings almost everywhere you look. The Modernisme architecture of Gaudi and others in Barcelona is a unique and beautiful treasure that is full of pleasant surprises. La Sagrada Familia basilica is breathtaking and stunning. It is like no other church anywhere else and is filled with light and with vibrant and changing colors depending on the sunlight. It has a soaring nave that is the highest I've ever seen, and the sculptures at the entrances are incredibly expressive and powerful. Barcelona is Spain's answer to Paris and is not to be missed.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
It went very smoothly, and cabs were readily available to take us to our hotel.
