Review summary

Serenade of the Seas was a great ship and we had a phenomenal time. You don't have to book on a mega ship to thoroughly enjoy yourself.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
I could not believe how fast embarkation went. WIthin 10 minutes of arriving at the port, we were aboard the ship. Wow.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
I've read all the reviews about the food and after many cruises...gotta admit, I was impressed across the board. Having said that, the buffet was outstanding...best pizza and bacon I've ever had on a cruise ship. Chops Grill is a must do (trust me).

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
While I didn't participate, it looked fun.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
Much as we (8 of us) enjoyed the cruise, the one place I was really disappointed in was the evening shows. I just felt they could have done so much better. I won't go into specifics but...

Children's Programs

I did not have children.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
I have never seen happier, more friendly staff than on Serenade of the Seas. And again, I'm not a novice cruiser. There was never a time that I didn't get a friendly genuine smile from the room attendants all the way up to the captain.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
ok, the design and layout of Serenade is very well thought out and basic but the exterior of the ship could really use some TLC. The Centrum though...drop dead gorgeous.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Our room, while pretty, was fine for our purposes. Seriously, the only time you're in your room is for sleeping. The shower...borderline tiny but we knew this when we booked. It's like anything else, you want more, spend money.

Ship tip

Stay off your cell phones and enjoy the cruise.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

We visited my happy place, St. John. St. John is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been.

Frederiksted, St. Croix, U.S.V.I.

We didn't do an excursion but instead visited the Cruzan distillery. The folks there could not have been more accommodating and friendly. Oh yeah, the rum was good too. (and how)

St. John's, Antigua

5 out of 5
If you have the opportunity, do the zip line excursion on Antigua. A clear 10 on a 10 scale.

Basseterre, St. Kitts

We booked the Brimstone Fortress excursion (don't miss this one) and somehow ended up with the same tour guide we had four years ago. What a nice surprise. St. Kitts is my favorite island outside of St. John. Yes, the shopping area is crowded and yes you get hassled but guess what, the shopping area is very small part of the island. Note: Don't judge the Caribbean by the T-Shirt shops.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

I did the snuba excursion. I've always wanted to try this and it far exceeded my expectation. The guys who ran the boat were amazing and took our safety very seriously. The company is snubasxm. I can't say enough about this excursion.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Despite what you may read, disembarkation was a breeze. From the time we got our luggage and were outside the terminal was about 10 minutes.
