The only place where tipping was expected was in the spa, so carry some currency with you if you make an appointment. Buy the Serenity package on the first day available to only 10 couples, so you have complete access to all spa facilities every day and a terrific view from the back of the ship.

You can often get a free upgrade to a balcony. Really worthwhile doing.

Sometimes upgrades are available at check-in. American Airlines Cruises has been helpful in the past in securing upgrades at check-in.

Easy on and off ship. We did book mostly private tours as there were 4 of us and we could have a private tour for less than the ship's tours. Don't worry about what color you get for excursions as they alternate them all. Don't miss any of the zodiac trips as they are all somewhat different.

For this cruise in Canada in October, make sure that you pack appropriate warm clothing. We got snow on the third day which we didn't expect.

For their formal night, be sure to pack a sports coat if you're a man. They had to lend me one because most cruise lines these days don't have formal nights.

Elegant casual is much more relaxed than previously. Many guests look slovenly or underdressed for the dining venues of the restaurant and The grill.

Try the dining venues ASAP - we saw tremendous variety in quality of food and service. The venues that aren't as busy are best because the ship seemed understaffed in the food and beverage areas
