Review summary

We really enjoyed this cruise. We did an Alaska with Princess in May on the Royal Princess and did not enjoy that ship nearly as much as this one. I loved the public areas and the choice of lounges and music every night. Skywalker's was fun.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food and drinks aboard the Sapphire Princess were excellent. The buffet area was smaller than other ships I've been on, but the food was consistently good. Food in the dining room was excellent as well. The only meal we did not enjoy was the Crab Shack. After paying the high price, we tasted it and left it uneaten. The crab was rubbery, and the flavor of all the seafood was the same - it tasted like pasta water. The last night of the cruise was seafood night at the buffet and the seafood was infinitely better than the dining experience we paid extra for.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We enjoyed the pool late at night when it wasn't crowded. We like going to trivia and game shows and enjoyed these very much. The cruise directors and staff were very good - maybe not the best I've seen - but they were overall friendly and fun.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Ship's house orchestra as well as the ship's entertainers were excellent. We enjoyed listening to the various groups around the ship especially the Illse Sandoval Duo and the Electric Waves Duo. The ship production shows were really good. Our favorite of the guest performers was Jason Neistadt.

Children's Programs

did not travel with children

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
From the waiters to the room stewards the service was excellent.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
I really liked the "older" vibe of this ship. The new mega ships with all the slides and climbing walls ect just aren't our style. I really liked the public areas, the multiple lounge choices. Common areas were always clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The room was just big enough for the two of us. I had thought we would have a completely obstructed window, but that was not the case and we did have a view from the window which was nice.
