Review summary

Princess Ruby is a nice ship and does food the correct way. The afternoon tea was very nice touch. The main problem with the curise is half the staff was great and half was not very good. The other problem that might keep us off the ship in the future is I am 59 years old and felt the music and activities were geared for people older than me. An example is their Rock and Roll Trivia as 50's rock and roll. I expected Rock and Roll to be 60's and 70's at the latest. The late night club music had the same problem. Thier activities were mainly trivia, bingo and art auctions. It would have been nice to have activies for people between 20 and 60. If you want a cruise to relax and eat this is the one for you. If you want things to do this is not the cruise for you.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We were able to check in at 12:15 pm and walked through non stop

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The main dining room food was very good. The service was very good or very bad based on the night. We had anytime dinning so we had different service staff. The buffet was OK but they do not know how to make an omelet. They also did not have much to drink and changed extra for milk in the morning.

International Café

4 out of 5

Not a lot of people knew about this place because it is hidden in plain site. Great sandwiches and deserts. Just be prepared for staff that is NOT friendly. The bar next to the International Café is not very friendly and makes it hard to get a drink. I would get the food and do some ware else to get my drink.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
The ship does not have extra things like Rock Walls, Golf, Slide... The trivia and other actives were geared to people between 60 and 90 years old.

Princess Links

1 out of 5

There is NO Princess Links. At one time there was a miniature golf but it is gone. They still have the golf clubs and balls but no course. We did have fun putting around the deck but they should not advertise Princess Links.

Gatsby's Casino

5 out of 5

The casino was very nice. They just need to run the craps table more hours. They have a electronic poker table that was fun.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The music was from the 50's and things old people liked.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
It seems like half the staff was great and half the staff hated to be there.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was clean and well kept.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The size was average but the layout was good. The balcony was large and centered on the ship. Just remember the people above you can see into your balcony. The room was half way beteen the mid elevators and the back elevators. The shower is very small.

Ship tip

Go to the afernoon Tea. It was fun and a time to meet new people.

Ports of call

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

5 out of 5
We just walked the port but had fun. If you want real Mexican food that is not a tourist trap go to Taqueria EL Paisa. It is a couple of blocks off the marina

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We walked from our room right off the ship without stopping until we hit customs. We got through customs in 10 minutes.

Everyone thank you for your comments on my review. I have been on 14 cruises with 5 different cruise lines and have done 3 Princess cruises so I am not new to this and understand what I was getting into. I know what to expect from Princess and was just disappointed with parts of this cruise. Restets, the paperwork has check-in from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm. You can go anytime you get there, they do not have preset check in times. I thought I would have to wait until 1 pm but was able to just walk on at 12:15

You say you were able to check in at 12:15. What was your scheduled check in time?

Going on Ruby next year and I don't think I will miss those activities as we will be in Alaska.

I'm not sure it is fair to say the ship is only geared towards old people. I'm younger than you and have no trouble enjoying the ship activities. In fact Sea Days are my favorite and I always want more of them. It is true there is no "playground", but I believe the ship feels less crowded because there is no rockwall or rope course (or the lines for them) taking up space I can relax on.

No, this is not an Oasis ship, but you should have known that going into it. Charged for milk at breakfast? That is new. Oh well, 8 more days until we board for Hawaii, looking forward to it for the second time.

Sorry that you had issues but I have to wonder how much investigation was done regarding the ships average age group and available activities.

MikeandNick I’m sorry there wasn’t too much that interested you. It’s sounds like you had a good time otherwise.

Majmom96 thanks for saying that.

Interesting review. I actually thought the Ruby had more activities than I could participate in. They had Zumba classes, dance classes, cooking demos, martini classes, wine tastings....too many to list here. I guess they just didn’t have things that interested you. Sorry. 🍸
