Review summary

I would highly recommend the Ruby Princess and the 5 day itinerary to Cabo San Lucas. It was nice having two available days there in port. We had time constraints but would have reserved this as a longer cruise. The ship itself is beautifully maintained, and the finishes on board are really lovely. Everything was well organized with great service, food, and shows.

Embarkation

With Club Class, the embarkation experience was seamless. Lovely private waiting area at the cruise terminal.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
From the general buffet to the specialty restaurants, the food was excellent.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
This was a spa cruise so we booked several spa treatments which were great. We also paid for a half-day at the private area on one of the decks called The Sanctuary. The servers brought "afternoon tea" to our lounge chairs. It is worth the slight charge for this shaded "quiet zone". Servers were very attentive.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The production shows were outstanding, in particular the Ruby Princess band. The singers and dancers were wonderful, and kudos to the entire behind-the-scenes crew (lighting, costumes, etc.)

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
From the minute we stepped on board, the service was excellent. The waiters were always quietly waiting on the side to attend to any need. The room steward was always available and always courteous. The wait staff in the Club Class dining room were fabulous. Giving a shout out to Francesco (the head waiter in the CC dining room, and Roberta whose table we always asked for)...fabulous service.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The layout was fairly typical of how the newer cruise ships are designed, but once we oriented ourselves as to which hallways connect, it was not a problem. We were given a paper map upon check in but there are deck plans posted near the elevators and stairs for quick reference.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We had a Club Class Mini-Suite, and it was worth it. We had just a bit extra of space and the sitting area was very nice including lots of shelves and places to store travel items. The closet was large. We had two t.v.'s in our cabin, loved the soft cotton bathrobes we requested. Bathtub was nice versus just the shower option. Spacious balcony.

Ship tip

Make sure to try at least one specialty restaurant on the ship. We had a six-course dinner at Curtis Stone, and it was excellent!

Ports of call

San Pedro (Los Angeles), California

Everything was well organized, and the terminal waiting area was clean and comfortable. Lots of staff available and directing passengers where to go or what to do next.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

5 out of 5
Loved Cabo San Lucas. We booked a morning city tour (by bus) with an incredible tour guide named Rene. It was worth booking this since the city of Cabo is more than just the area near the port. We stopped at a restaurant and took some beautiful photos (which included a free drink) and also went to see a glass blowing demo inside of a shop. We went into the area of the city with a beautiful plaza. Could not get over just how clean and well maintained it was. Highly recommend this half-day city tour.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Although we could have disembarked earlier, we chose to be in the very last group to enjoy our last morning on the ship. However, the process of disembarking was well organized. We requested assistance with our luggage since there were many pre-assigned groups that were carrying off their own luggage. This can be difficult if you have large pieces of luggage and the elevators are crowded.
