Review summary

Looking for an easy and relaxing getaway, we decided on this 5-day cruise to Cabo San Lucas to celebrate our anniversary for several reasons.  Living in Northern California, the drive to LA meant no airports, most of the cruise was at sea with only one port...perfect!  We drove to LA a day early and had a great overnight stay at the Crowne Plaza, which is literally within walking distance from the port/ship.  Embarkation was smooth and relatively quick.  I really appreciated the many, many port agents there to point everyone in the right direction.

The ship is beautiful...great decor, fairly easy to navigate, nice public rooms and very clean.  We did the Anytime dining and ate in the Horizon Court for breakfast and lunch, dinner in the Main Dining Rooms, Michelangelo and Da Vinci.  Food is average, especially in the Horizon Court.  The Main Dining Rooms waite staff appeared overwhelmed and rushed which might explain why it took so long to be served.  But they were gracious and apologetic.  My biggest complaint was being told that tables for two were for Suite passengers...not good.  We did get a table for two the last night of the cruise...guess late is better than never.  Speciality dining in the Crown Grill was the very best...great ambience, good food and service.  We had room service for breakfast two mornings.  It was always on time and complete.

The public rooms are inviting and comfortable.  Our favorites were the Skywalkers, a quiet daytime hideaway with magnificent views, and the Adagio for jazz and a cocktail after dinner.  The Piazza is beautiful and has lots to offer, shopping, food, bars and entertainment.

We tendered at Cabo.  The process was impressive and easy.  We were assigned staging areas in public rooms and given numbers.  We simply waited until our numbers were called and proceeded to the tenders...no long lines of pushing and shoving.

Disembarkation was also smooth and easy.  Like the tender process, we were assigned groups and a public room, depending on the time you pre-selected to disembark, where we waited until our group was called.  Again, no long lines and we were off early.

Overall the cruise was great.

Definitely book the Crown Grill. We made a reservation for 5:30 and were able to sit near the windows.

Only saw one show in the theatre...the Folkloric dances from Cabo San Lucas.

Guessing since we weren't with children.

Service and Staff

Our cabin steward, Rudi, was excellent. Crew and staff were kind and welcoming. Even though the dining rooms waite staff appeared rushed and overwhelmed, they were always gracious.

Cabin / Stateroom

Our cabin was as expected, having read reviews. Very nice, clean and comfortable. The bed and pillows were pure bliss. There is plenty of closet, cabinet and drawer space but the bathroom is small. There is only one US 110v outlet (two sockets) at the desk so the power strip we had came in handy. We had concerns about being a deck below the Horizon Court but there was no unusual noise. Our steward, Rudi, was fantastic. Catered to our every need.

Ship tip

Lines for Anytime Dining in the Main Dining Rooms can be long if you go early. Going around 8:00pm and you can walk right in.

Ports of call

San Pedro (Los Angeles), California

If you plan to stay overnight, I strongly suggest the Crowne Plaza. A great harbor hotel very near the port with plenty to do within walking distance around the harbor (Battleship Iowa Museum, Ports of Call Village and a marketplace). The rate is comparable to other hotels not as nice or as close. If you drive, you can leave your car while on your cruise plus they have a shuttle to the ship (there are parking and shuttle fees). Suggest you use Lyft or Uber from and to the hotel...much less expensive than the hotel shuttle.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

We opted to tour on our own and selected one of the many vendors at the pier. We had a private van and were able to do and see exactly what we wanted...visited the glass factory, stopped for beach beautiful views and had a margarita in the town square of the historic San Jose del Cabo while we watched the children's dance rehearsal.
