Review summary

I would rate my recent cruise on the Ruby Princess as a 3 star. I compared this

cruise to a previous cruise on another cruise line to come up with my rating.

There were two main reasons that I rated this cruise as a 3 star.

The food I would rate as 3 star because of what I considered  as a

somewhat  limited selection.

There were 3 main dining rooms but they all served the same menu and

there was only 6 entrees on the menu.

There were two buffet  restaurants but they both had the same menu. My

main disappointment with the buffets was the limited seating availability

in the dining area. I had to wait for seating almost everytime I went to the

buffets. I never had to wait in the serving lines but I did have to wait to find

seating. This was a very negative experience for me because on my last

cruise I never had this problem.

I dined at the Crown Grill three nights and I had marvelous experience every time. The food was excellent and the service was outstanding.

The maître d” was a very gracious and attentive host. He would check a

few  times each visit if everything was fine and he helped  me with some

of my choices. I believe his name was Carlos.

I also want to complement my cabin steward Lamberto Bonus. He was

always available whenever I needed anything. He always had a smile and

a greeting every time we meet.

The other disappointment and frustration on this cruise was the disembark

process. We had to vacate our cabin by 8 am and my disembark assigned

time was 9:30 am. This was bad enough having to wait around for 11/2 hrs. but then there was also an additional 45 minute delay. This disembark

process seemed disorganized compared to my last cruise when it only took a total of 45 minutes from the start until I was through customs.

We had to stand in the photo area to get off.

We were placed In the group for the 9:30 depart, when I had informed princess our plane left at 11, which I had filled in our forms at the time we boarded. They had a group that left at 8:30, which would have worked, we asked to be a part of that one and they said it was full. I couldn't understand what the problem was by adding 2 more to the group. The nice lady at the desk actually had me speak to the assistant, guy in white, and he was not very nice about it in helping. My sister is older and assured the help would have been appreciated, but no. I was upset I told him I would never travel on Princess again. He just said ok! We had the opportunity to speak with the captain on the bridge tour and sissy wouldn't let me say anything to him. It did work out at the end, but I would rather not do that again.

I'm Mrs. Davonavo...We noticed the crowded buffet seating too, but we found that usually only one buffet area is open at the times we arrived...so we walked over to the other area and found plenty of seating with beverage servers available. When disembarking on our last trip, we had an exceptionally long wait in the Wheelhouse bar.. It was pretty cool outside at the time, so we were glad they kept us inside. It turns out that the cause was an understaffed customs crew... a government problem, not the ships fault.

That is what we have found as well!! The bigger the ship with more clients, the slower the process!! We like to sit in the lounge or area that we are allowed to and visit before we start our journey home! All part of the adventure.

We have never had to carry other than our optional change of clothes and toiletries bag on and off the ship. Bags outside your stateroom the night before, waiting for you in the terminal to be picked up after disembarking. And the reverse going aboard. Yes, the process can seem slow, but moving 3,000 confused people around can't be easy. Take a book to read, have another cup of coffee, make a new friend.

Sorry, why do you have to carry your own? We have never had to and I am curious as we usually cruise on Princess!

I agree, the desserts were very good though. The shows were nothing really great, kind of confusing. We had some problems with disembark, we had to carry our own. Hey they were heavy, haha. That was my second princess ship and yes this one was better but not up to the standards I have found with Royal Caribbean. Great review!
