Review summary

Good cruise to get away from the cold weather and to relax and enjoy the sun and places we visited.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
The information provided to us regarding the second half of our cruise embarkation procedures was incomplete, vague and contained incorrect information. Specifically, the information provided did not state we were required to disembark and go through U.S. Immigration. Lack of specifics was disconcerting.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
desire with poor taste and consistency. Food court buffet was good, wide array of selections. As one who doesn't eat pork, the breakfast menu was limited. They should think of chicken and/or turkey breakfast products. Also need to indicate certain dishes do or do not contain pork products. They need to post ALL of the daily menus on their APP. Have to wander around to figure out what they are having on a particular day. Also need to allow one to make dining room reservations on-line using the APP. They could also use their APP to communicate to their guests on significant events.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
primary focus was on relaxing and on princess the Sanctuary is our favorite place. Staff was very attentive. Has a great afternoon tea service with excellent food.

Gymnasium

5 out of 5

We also took advantage of the health and exercise offerings at their on-board health facility. Again, Outstanding and very knowledgeable staff who really worked with us on our diets and exercise routines. Facility was clean and well equipped.

Casino

2 out of 5

Still give a below average to the Casino as they still allow smoking. Couldn't stay in the Casino for more than 10 minutes.

Entertainment

did not attend any entertainment venues

Children's Programs

did not have children with us

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Dining room wait staff service and attentiveness was average. We get as good or better service at the restaurants we go to at home in the DFW area. Room steward was excellent along with the Fitness Center and Sanctuary staff.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Layout is fine. Over all cleanliness was acceptable. Carpets were worn throughout the ship including our stateroom. This was our third cruise on the Royal Princess and it appears that they have not changed the carpets since our first cruise in 2015 . Food court carpets were stained and nasty in places. On deck, some of the artificial carpet was loose. Encountered a number of toilets that did not work along with lots of inoperable soap dispensers.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Cabin was pretty standard and was kept clean. Carpet was worn and needs to be replaced. Couldn't use the balcony after dark because the balcony lighting for this stateroom was turned off by the bridge. Don't know why but a significant safety issue.

Ship tip

be aware that there will be lots of people on board and make sure you monitor your cabin expense report especially regarding shore excursions.

Very good port. We took the sail/train excursion which was fantastic.

Castries, St. Lucia

4 out of 5
St. Lucia is very picturesque however it was a very rainy day. Took the train tour which was not really worth it. Toured Castries and went to a beach.

Bridgetown, Barbados

Did not disembark. Neat picture of Sailing Ship moored next to the Royal Princess

St. John's, Antigua

4 out of 5
Good shopping port, basically remained in the shopping area next to the port.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Good. Recommend independent travel to the Ft. Lauderdale airport. Much more flexible, comfortable, quicker and cheaper than a transfer.
