Always had the grill for hotdogs/hamburgers to fall back on.
Do not sail on Rotterdam. Choose another boat. This one came out of dry dock a few weeks earlier and is not in usable shape.
The passengers are generally old and sedate. This is a cruise line for more geriatric cruises.
Lower promenade deck is fun for outdoor walkabout. Sheltered somewhat from elements. We walked several mornings.
The ice cream is excellent.
Treat yourselves for Le Cirque
BB King Blues Band was a fantastic addition - great, authentic music in the Crow's Nest every night.
Hamburgers from poolside grill were good.
Hamburgers aren't that great on the ship but the other food was wonderful. The excursions are very expensive so we only booked the boat excursion in Stavanger. You can save some money purchasing the train ride in Flam on your own when you arrive.
Make a reservation for the Pinnacle Grill restaurant as soon as you get on board as this restaurant gets booked quickly and is their best restaurant. There is a fee but it is well worth it. Same thing with their Italian restaurant, the Canaletto.
The ship was kept extremely clean...they were constantly cleaning thru out the day!
Look for Internet onshore. The ship's wifi was expensive. On this particular cruise we were able to use accessible public transportation for excursions- much cheaper, just as interesting and provided a bit of adventure.
Lido was great fro breakfast and lunch.
Not enough activities; shows were OK but not great; food was OK but we have had better on other lines. Very old ship and although it was refurbished a few years ago, you can only do so much. Rust around windows, etc.
Be positive. Food is good and excellent walking track. Weather in Feb - March is great in the Caribbean compared to Canada and northern US.
Get to know the layout. Do know your bar staff. Understand that if you go to the Mariners luncheon, get in line early, but do NOT block the elevators as people don't know there is a line forming behind them and up the stairs to go into the dining room.
If you are able to, book one or both of the premium dinning rooms..great food for and excellent value. Or book an early dinner, then you'll be able to see all the 9pm shows.
Small easy to get around
Don't do it. Wasn't happy with ship, service, inconsistencies, and poor communication. Perfect examples: got double charged several times and charged incorrectly for things, had to go to front desk a total of 7 times to get it straightened out, numerous shore excursions cancelled at the last minute, poor customer service, things that were promised by Holland America didn't come true--refrigerator, laundry services (was told again there was self serve laundry on the ship, packed light, got on board--no self serve laundry-had to pay big bucks to have ship do your laundry), etc. Poor execution, poor follow through.
If you like peace and quiet , great service and relaxing atmosphere, this is a great ship. I only wish the entertainment was better suited for a mature audience as well as the musical taste
