First time trying Holland and was excited. However, Holland’s culture of doing just enough, along with frequent missteps, chaos and focus on the cruise line vs passengers made it feel like a low-budget first time cruise line. “Rotten”dam. Do not recommend.
Embarkation
2 out of 5
Like Huddled masses at a bus station and staff not sure of what was going on at times.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
2 out of 5
Surprisingly bland, cool and sometimes undercooked or even burnt in Lido. Member of party had food poisoning from undercooked food.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
Pretty nonexistent. Other than that it is low energy activities (flower arranging, bingo, line dancing from a smart mouthed activity instructor who had no issue offending guests. Not us but others.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
The world stage productions were good and the production was high quality. the BB King sets were awesome. Lots of energy and the singer Carla and musicians were exceptional.
Children's Programs
No kids in party
Service and Staff
3 out of 5
Room stewards (Tina/Nissan) and dinner waiter (Wiri) were wonderful, kind and very attentive to all things. Unfortunately that’s where it ended. Other staff members were uninformed, not empowered to make simple decisions and appeared more cruise line focused than customer focused. A frequent response was “I don’t know” or “I have to ask my manager.” Most frequently you would be passed off to someone else in another part of the ship.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Newer ship, very well maintained and clean.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
This cabin has an extended corner balcony that also provides additional space in the cabin. Makes a big difference. Large bathroom and very large shower compared to other lines. The staterooms above can look down on the balcony but only if they are leaning on their balcony.
Ship tip
Would not recommend if you desire a great level of service, if you have food allergies or expect mid-energy activities, at min.
You should've done some more research before booking with Holland. They are notorious for catering to older people and retirees, so they don't have a lot of activities onboard. Try another cruise line if you want more action.
