My first winter trip by tiggs727

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Hi I'm Jonathan Taylor. Recently my family and I embarked upon "The Rhapsody Of The Seas" via Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. We had a very good trip. The shops aboard the ship had some pretty good duty free discounts and the ports of call were great as well. Most of the ports I'd never been to before so that added to my enjoyment as well. The one thing that I would change on this ship would be the food. While the food was good, I was disappointed that the food did not reflect the places that we were going to visit.

The crew was great.  Always friendly and smiling.  Made you feel important.  The activity staff was the greatest .  My family are jointers and the activity staff made them special.  Activities to meet all needs.  Everyone on board became a part of the fun.  They were so inclusive.

Nice Cruise by zhengchun0305

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We are happy with the cruise. but it could be so much better in many ways.

The restaurants and buffet hours are not long enough to meet everyone's schedule. All closed too early, way too early for cruisers who have a night life. Food are ok, but not fascinating at all. Menu repeat too many time!

Great destinations, not my favorite ship by dspang30

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The destinations were wonderful.  The ship left a lot to be desired.  It could be that we're spoiled with the larger ships.

* Smoke smell from casino filtered into rooms, dining area, and guest services area

* Windjammer menu was the same each day.

* Entertainment was lacking

Cruise Critique by ToddGriffiths

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Overall experience was good. It had been approximately 5 years since our last cruise and some differences were clear. Activity options seemed to be fewer and the caliber of the available entertainment was not at the level I remember in the past. The dinning room service was great however the food preparation was average; three of the meals I remember specifically were very under-cooked and a disappointment.

Our waitress in the main dining room was great and did everything she could to make our experience a positive one. The housekeeping staff also did a great job, the gentlemen in charge of our room was friendly and helpful.

all in all I had a good time on this cruise but think it fell short of expectations in the listed areas.

Being on the ship with all of the festivities around the Christmas season.  The crew, especially the Captain were very visible. The ship was very well decorated for the Holiday season.Happy

Best vacation deal going! by minx269

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

and Royal Caribbean teamed up to offer us a GREAT value on our vacation! 7 days in the Western Caribbean was just what the Dr ordered! We loved that the majority of the guests were pretty much in our age groups and the food, as always, was amazing and plentiful! The BEST entertainment on the ship, in my opinion, is the ships own band, singers and dancers. Their productions are always top knotch with us!

So much fun, ship staff was exceptional by gypsyspunk

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I would recommend this cruise. The ship staff was very friendly and helpful. The ship had everything and was comfortable. The ports were great. There's was a lot to do, but we spent time at the adult pool, which was so relaxing.

GREAT CRUISELINE...wonderful ship by lswetherington

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We had a wonderful time on our cruise.  The food was great, the staff excellent, cabins wonderful.  Shows were very good..not as good as some we have seen but much better than others. Our only complaint about this entire cruise was other passengers....not the ship, staff or anything to do with Royal Caribbean. We had some of the rudest and meanest people we have ever seen on a ship.  The crew still treated them wonderfully...no matter what or how they spoke to them. Once again....Royal Caribbean served with the utmost perfection.  Thank you for making our cruise the best!

Great itinerary and great crew, ship needs updating by Cruiser879

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We had a great family cruise with our adult kids.  We loved the itinerary and had a great time in every port.  The crew was fantastic as usual with our waiters and cabin steward providing excellent service with a very positive and friendly attitude.

We had a few issues with the ship which, although updated recently, needs more work.  Our balcony was unusable due to a very bad odor that, as explained by guest services, was normal and can occur in certain winds.  The restaurant ran out of many foods, including steak and the main chocolate dessert.  One of the production shows had to be cancelled due to technical reasons and the entertainment was average except for one of the headliners.  The cruise director was average as he seemed inexperienced.

RCCL still allows too much smoking on their ships and doesn't enforce no smoking areas.  Finally, the embarkation and disembarkation processes need to be improved.  We were diamond members, but did not receive any "fast track" service due to the very unorganized staff on the pier.

poor food and a lot of things went wrong. by BarbaraS35

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

my best time was by the pool.  Also with my friends.   We found that the food was old and went moldy on us.  Bread was moldy and our fruit basket went moldy in to days.  It had fuss on it.  We feel the  lobster was old and may be they did something to take the fish taste away.  I say it seem different then the other 29 cruises we were on. This was our 30 cruise on Royal and was very unhappy with it.  It took over an hour to get Breakfest and our dinner.  We had a 6:00 p.m. seating and left at 8 pm.  WE did no like waiting until 6:30 p.m. to just to get started on the ship and and go straight to dinner.  They keeped saying they were sorry for things being late or a show was cancelled.  No matter what happen on that ship we found out all other people  were very unhappy. WE wish we at times we never went.  Out of 30 cruise  this was the worst one to be on.  My husband ask one of the officers about taking in food from spain to Miami and then to tampa and he said no.  Food was old and bad.  thank you.

Friendly staff but small older ship. by CaseMoney952

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Transatlantic

Was not very impressed with this cruise. Ship is one of the smallest in the fleet with limited dining selections.  Other than trivia, not many other activities.  Entertainment was subpar.  I also got bad food poisoning which kept me in bed for the last few days of the trip.  There were many others that got sick as well.

Good deal by innadubinsky

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

It is worth the money paid. itinerary is very interesting ,  the ship is good and service is excellent in most cases.  Entertainment is mediocre .  Good pools -one is covered ,  and four Jacuzzis. Food is OK but nothing special . Surprisingly ,  upgrades of food are offered in the free dining room for additional cost. Why do they do that? If someone wants to indulge ,  there are different restaurants on board that serve meals for fees.

ALso, kind of cheap that no body lotion is provided .  It is expected as a given and creates inconvenience. Of course, lotion can be purchased in the ship shop.

Very satisfactory by Cruiser2109361

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

The organization of running the cruise in every aspect was very good,

but I would suggest that in the times between the breakfast, lunch and dinner time, there should be some sort of snacks available at any time as there was nothing in between and sometimes it was difficult to wait until the next eating time..

Rhapsody October by carlarose0304

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

The ship is a perfect size for this type of itinerary.  No bells and whistles-but it is easy to navigate around the ship and it is nice to run across fellow travelers from time to time as it is not too big.  The food is so-so. Always the same menu at the Windjammer- they could do alot by mixing it up a bit with maybe a Mexican or Italian theme.  The BBQ they have on the pool deck is not a BBQ- more of a cookout- burgers and chicken (which wasnt' plentiful bc it takes too long to cook)

The Lounge area in the back of the boat was very underutilized.  Instead they crammed all the evening activities into the atrium lounge area- couldn't find seating there at night and couldn't walk thru either bc people were cramming all the decks trying to look over the railing.

Also the TV showed the same programs over and over and there were not English speaking news channels.  Couldn't see your folio on tv either. Also, for a mostly older adult community onboard, why are they running childrens movies on the outdoor screen?

Those are the gripes- otherwise the staff is very friendly and hard working.  The ship shows wear, but again if you are  looking to be onboard you should choose another ship.  This itinerry had us off for 7 of the 10 days in exotic ports and we were looking for a boat that fed us and provided some entertainment and a comfy bed.  Shows were good although we would like an adult comedian also maybe in the back lounge.

We loved Athens and Santorini the best. We also liked the other ports. The staff was great and always smiling and friendly. We will be back on ship in November for Transatlantic Cruise to United States of America, can't wait.

Eastern Mediterranean by mrandmrshall

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

Visiting Santorini was most favorable. We took the Royal Caribbean excursion which we totally enjoyed. This came with wine tasting, Greek appetizers and allowed us time to shop. Also included a lift ticket as part of the excursion.

This was my 13th cruise and was the worst ship I have ever been on by rogerbarrack

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Europe

Most of the staff was excllant..  This is the smallest room I have ever had and the only one without a refrigerator.  The bed was extremely hard and no toppers available.  Always, in the past, on formal nights lobster was on the menu, but this time it was only available with a $25.00 up charge and was totally unavailable even with the extra charge during the last five days of the cruise..  Also, traditionally there has been ethnic foods on the menu for the areas visited, but this time there were almost none.

I most assuredly will never sail on Royal Caribbean again.  If the other lines have sunk to this level I will be sailing Oceania for my next cruise.

Mixed Views+ and - by Grammyof14

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Europe

We have cruised over 10 times (mostly in Europe) on many different ships and we have mixed views on this particular cruise. Good: Ports of call were outstanding.  Stateroom attendant was nice and did an adequate job.  Folded towels were humorous, and room kept nicely. Wait staff in dining rooms friendly. Not so good: ship felt old and dated, noticed rust everywhere and windows were too dirty to see clearly. (exterior). Floors were extremely slippery in buffet dining-I almost fell a couple times early on, and finally did FALL on second to last day.  Embarrassing, mildly bruised but not scarred for life.  Food was luke warm 90% of the time, which really bothered my better half. Constantly low or out of  cups, soft serve ice cream and cones, slow in replenishing.  A few of the personel on board acted condecending or outride rude at times, (not the wait staff-they were always pleasant).  The noise level at pool deck was irritating-wayyyy too loud (canned  music).  Lastly:  to have to pay for water when taking an excursion is flat out wrong.  Water should always be included.
