Review summary

This was a nice time away but disappointing experience. We prefer the smaller ships and were disappointed that Royal Caribbean would not take pride in all vessels and keep them all looking and feeling great.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was well organized and went well. Thirty minutes from port arrival to boarding ship.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Windjammer had good selections. The servers were very helpful.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The pools were clean and well maintained

Concierge Club

3 out of 5

This is old and tired. Needs update on furniture. Needs to have better selections and have better hours. Mike and Sanyo did a great job serving at nite.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The shows were boring and lacked energy. The musicians that played in Centrum were good.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Staff appeared tired and sad. They were performed their jobs but there was no energy. Perhaps they were feeling the angst of uncertainty in light of CoVid 19 frenzy.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
This is an older ship, and that is okay, however, they are not maintaining her well. The windows in stateroom were filthy and the room steward apologized on our first meeting that he is unable to clean them. The cabinet doors were coming off hinges. There was a sliding glass door in our family suite that would slam shut and become jammed requiring a carpenter to assist us to get in the bedroom.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
The windows filthy. The cabinet doors coming off hinges. There was no tv in second bedroom. The TVs were old and poor quality. There were no on demand movies. No option for dvd. The satellite connection for what was on tv was very poor. The sliding door to master bedroom poor design and would slam shut when ship moved and come off track. The curtains are old and worn. The carpets ok. The furniture in sitting room ok. Our stateroom attendant was very good and kept the room well.

Ship tip

I would never sail this ship again. It felt that this ship was going to be used as long as there was a profit and minimal effort to enhance or even maintain.

Ports of call

Tampa, Florida

5 out of 5
Easy access, the valet parking option was great experience.

Key West, Florida

5 out of 5
Easy access, fun city, lots to see and do.

George Town, Grand Cayman

5 out of 5
Beautiful port!

Cozumel, Mexico

3 out of 5
Had to tender in and that was a terrible experience as we were made to wait on a bobbing tender for 1 hour while they waited to fill to capacity before moving the short distance to port. That was very poor service and very aggravating. It delayed start of our excursion.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

4 out of 5
Port is very clean but very touristy. Thankfully great weather and nice shops

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Easy

We will be in this room in April. I’m quite concerned as a family of 4 with no tv in the kids room!

Was on Rhapsody just this past April, and had none of the bad experiences you seemed to have had. Stateroom was clean and in good shape upon arrival. Crew was energetic and always attempting to please. Food was above average in main dining room, exceptional at Chops and was average in the Windjammer...it’s a buffet so kind of expected. Shows we’re fine, and had an exceptional 2 man comedian team ( forget their names ). Sad that your experience was forgettable and less than acceptable. Only thing my wife and I didn’t like was the horrible smoke filled casino, so we avoided it.

We enjoyed our cruise on Rhapsody in December of 2018 immensely and found everything on the ship and in our balcony state room in good shape. Like you, we like the smaller ships and the itineraries that go with them. Really sorry to hear that this nice old ship isn't looked after like she should be. There is still a need for the smaller ships because there are many harbors in Europe that can't accommodate bigger ships like Oasis.

We enjoy the smaller ships also, wish they would put just as much pride in them.

Just for reference, I was on Enchantment of the Seas when it was only 6 years old and our room was probably in the worst condition of any cruise I’ve been on. So it’s nothing new and I don’t think it has anything to do with the age of the ship.

Our room was in pretty poor condition 2 years ago. I love this ship and it’s design but the rooms definitely need to be renovated.
