Review summary

Overall the cruise was nice. Not too happy that we didn’t stop in Key West and that we were only refunded 4 dollar per person for not going in. The gratuities that they charge are outrageous. Don’t they pay their employees a decent rate?

We didn’t get off the ship due to rough seas but it didn’t even seem that rough. They only refunded us 4 dollars per person which is a joke.

The gratuity charges are typical for most mainstream cruise lines. My personal opinion is they should just add it to the price of the cruise, but that would make them look more expensive since many don’t read the fine print to see the total cost when booking. As far as the $ 4.00 refund for Key West, that was for the port charges they are required to refund if the ship is unable to stop there.

The staff are paid a pittance & work extremely long hours. Several thousand guests are embarking & disembarking, so of course it's busy. We always walk off with our own luggage which avoids the crush. I understand that not everyone is able to take that option.

All cruise lines charge gratuity, its how the workers make most of their money. You only get refunded port fees if you miss a port, captain won't dock if it's not safe to do. When you sign your cruise contract it tells you ports may be missed, no need for refunds. You are on vacation.
