Review summary

The overall service and food were not what we have come to expect from our 9 previous cruises. Cruise on this ship for the itinerary, not for the ship.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation in Barcelona was quick and easy.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
MDR staff was excellent but can't say that for the food or selections. The only specialty restaurant we dined at was Izumi and the service and food were excellent. The buffet food was dry and overcooked. We have grown to love the Beef on Weck sandwich in the Park Cafe, but it was not up to par on Rhapsody and neither was the service.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
Did not partake.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Musicians were good.

Children's Programs

No children

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
MDR staff was excellent, cabin steward was adequate. I don't know who is responsible but we had purchased beverage packages and normally the Coke souvenir cups are in our cabin on arrival. This was not the case on Rhapsody, I had to track them down myself. We had purchased a Wi-Fi package and normally there are instructions on how to access the Wi-Fi in the cabin on arrival. Not on the Rhapsody. Had to go to the Wi-Fi desk for assistance and wait in line with many other cruisers with the same issue. The Wi-Fi was poor compared to other RCI ships we have sailed on. Note: instructions did show up in cabin on day 12. This was our first cruise as Diamond and we have come to expect our new pins to be in our cabin on arrival. Not on the Rhapsody. I notified the Diamond Rep in the lounge and on day 3 I talked with the Loyalty Ambassador who gave me our pins. Note: they showed up in our cabin on day 6 and I returned the ones I received to the Loyalty Ambassador. We Would have loved to play Bingo to win a cruise but the Cruise Compass listed it as being played at 2 PM when it actually was played at 11:15 AM. Lastly on disembarkation day we Had a scheduled time of 9:10 AM and around 8:30 there was a knock on our door telling us to vacate the cabin. This has never happened on any other Royal Caribbean ship.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Ship design was typical of its era and it was clean and appeared to be well maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin was acceptable.

Ship tip

Don't set your expectations too high.

Ports of call

Barcelona, Spain

5 out of 5
Enjoyed Barcelona. Did not do an RCI excursion.

Lanzarote, Canary Islands

5 out of 5
Excellent port to visit and one If The best RCI excursions we have done.

Santa Cruz De La Palma, Canary Islands

5 out of 5
Very interesting island.

Perfect Day At Coco Cay, Bahamas

4 out of 5
What a difference. This was our first visit to Perfect Day and what a change from the old Coco Cay. We had scheduled the Up Up and Away but it was too windy.

Tampa, Florida

5 out of 5
Did not do an excursion.

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
Waited in line forever to get off the ship. Once off the ship claiming our luggage and getting through Customs was smooth.

Every pax has to be out of their cabin by 8 or 8.30, then wait for your disembarkation time or walk off earlier with your own luggage. This is the normal process for every cruise ship, so not sure how this was new to you with a few cruises under your belt. We also have cruised on a ship that might not have been our favourite, due to the price & itinerary & found the 2nd time around always much better than the 1st experience, leaving us with much better memories.

Sorry to hear that

We were on this cruise and stayed on as consecutive cruisers. We were very satisfied and this was our 32nd cruise. Lots of children on the 7 night Thanksgiving Cruise - not as pleasant. Some parents leave their children to do as they please such as running and yelling in the cabin hallways and no respect for older passengers. No disrespect to RCI on this.
