Rhapsody needs to be retired; the ship is old and RC hasn't spent $ on it.

Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas

Cabin type: Inside

Cabin number: 2051

Review summary

Ship is very old and not at all what I expect from Royal Caribbean. Needs either a ton of maintenance/remodel or the ship needs to be retired. If you don't have high standards, it's a great deal and good for younger cruisers who don't expect perfection.

Stateroom is very old and not at all what I expect from Royal Caribbean. Needs either a ton of maintenance/complete remodel or the ship needs to be retired.

Ship tip

We had a lot of fun on this cruise despite overall quality being lower than expected. Amenities were under the standards Royal Caribbean boasts but the cruise director's staff and wait staff around the ship made this trip very memorable. Hott Sandz Band was also really wonderful.

Ports of call

Tampa, Florida

4 out of 5

George Town, Grand Cayman

5 out of 5
Gorgeous; wish we were there longer.

Cozumel, Mexico

2 out of 5
Dumpy, crowded, underwhelming.

Belize City, Belize

3 out of 5
A huge dump with not much to see but absolutely worth going to if you go to the cave tubing or to the monkey sanctuary. But both of those are over an hour away from the port.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
Lovely, everything you hope a port to be. It felt like the Disneyland of ports; not all authentic but clean, enjoyable and safe.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Easy and pretty quick. But of course sad to leave vacation.

This ship was built in 1997. It's supposed to be scheduled for another update/refit this April. Last one was 2016. Other cruise blogs report this ship as being up for sale. Just curious why you booked a cruise on such an old ship. Was the itinerary good?
