Review summary
We enjoyed our week on this cruise but won't book this ship again. It's an old ship that needs updating. There really isn't much to do on this ship, although that didn't bother us this trip. If we'd had our grandchildren with us, then we would have been very disappointed. First, let me say that the cruise director was excellent. Dan Dan was funny, talented and genuine (not over the top annoying like many are). Our servers at dinner were also amazing. We did the my time dining which was a complete mess! We were told we needed to book a table and were offered 5.30 or 8pm, which are the exact times of the early and late seatings! We could line up and wait, but that would be a long wait time, being told to come back at 8! Our servers the first night were great, and he told us we could add his name to our 8pm booking to get in his section. Every night we were told they had just seated people and they would be another hour. Why would they do this if we had requested him??? We were eventually seated in his section on the last night. Unfortunately we found the food bland and boring. The best part of the meal was the dessert, which was much better. The windjammer restaurant was a complete mess! There was no clear start point, with plates in various places and the food station in a circular system. It was total chaos! Couple that with the clientele mostly seniors, many with wheelchairs, it was terrible! We also found the service for breakfast bad in the restaurant. We were made to feel we were inconveniencing them by being there. We ordered juice and toast which did not arrive. Eggs that came with a plate of other food I didn't order or want. On the last morning we were seated on a very large table. We eventually saw a server 10 mins later who slowly came round the table with bread. I asked if we could order my daughter's food, as we needed to get off. We were bluntly told no, there were many people before us. My daughter is gluten intolerant and cannot eat most of the food in the buffet, but they served gluten free pancakes in the restaurant. She is 15 and actually lost weight on this cruise. She was also served raw chicken in the dining room one evening. The staff were very apologetic and sent her some chocolate strawberries. She is 100 lbs soaking wet and I was very worried she would get sick!
We went to Cozumel on this trip, but we docked at the old port which isn't as nice as the new one.
The entertainment was very good, with good singers, comedians and we were lucky enough to see the Vegas Tenors, who were amazing!!! Seating in the theatre was excellent, with most seats having a great view, which is rare.
So, even though we would not book this ship again, we did have a great time and would cruise Royal Caribbean again, making sure we chose a newer ship.
