Our cruise was good- except for the food in the MDR and buffet. We enjoyed our lunch at Alfredo’s and recommend it. The ship is nice and it was quiet and never seemed crowded, which I loved. We go again in October and I hope the food is better. I didn’t gain weight, so that was good.

Food and Dining

I read many reviews saying the food was excellent…so my expectations were high. The food in the mdr was so bland and served at the wrong temperature. Food that should be hot, was warm to room temperature. We mentioned this to hostess and the next night our dinner was brought out on “hot plates”, but the food was still warm. They tried. We had the same experience with desserts. They were warm when they should have been cold. The food on the buffet had no visual appeal. It all just looked brown. In my opinion, there needs to be a food upgrade! Something was not right with the food options, they just didn’t flow for this foodie. Weird mixes. I wish I could something from the mdr or buffet were delicious, but I can’t. I do recommend going to Alfredo’s for lunch. That was our tastiest meal.

When we got to cabin there was a sour smell. The cabin smelled funky and I was a bit annoyed. After a day of it, I investigated and noticed it was the shower curtain. I asked the cabin steward to change it-which he immediately did and the smell was gone! That cleared the smell. The cabin was quite and we enjoyed it. The room was clean.
Ship tip
Don’t go to breakfast in mdr, the buffet has a better selection. I cruised Princess before the pandemic which was awesome and expected it to be the same or near the same. Sadly the food was not. The over all service was on par and the I loved the activities in piazza!
All I know is that Caribbean Princess elevator used to announce my floor with a delightful "all-lo-ha". This one gave me some sort of techno babble that sounded more like I was entering the Alcoa plant.
Glad you somewhat enjoyed the cruise. If it’s one thing that hasn’t changed since the pandemic is that people still complain that the food wasn’t as good as it used to be. I started cruising over 25 years ago and people had the same complaints then. I thought the Regal food was pretty good. Nothing to have high expectations over but overall, I could find plenty I liked and I gained weight. Food of course is subjective. Cruise ship MDR food temp cannot be held to a made-to-order restaurant’s food temp. The MDR starts making the dishes in early afternoon. You may get a hot dish and you may not. All lines suffer from that logistics reality.
Appreciate your detailed feedback. You’ll find the food post pandemic not to be as it was before, across the industry. It’s seems to be improving, but the food costs seems to have caused limited memo. Glad you enjoyed your cruise otherwise.
