Cabin number: R316

Review summary

The one major, highly frustrating drawback is the MedallionClass app Princess uses. When it worked, it was pretty good. The problem is that it would freeze up better than 90% of the time I tried it and required a restart of the app

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Princess' embarkation process is the smoothest and quickest we've ever experienced.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Buffet and main dining room food quality are above average for this class of cruise. The steakhouse, Crown Grill, was about average. Sabatini's, the Italian specialty restaurant was one of the best we've gone to.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The pools on the Regal Princess were very nice except that, especially the Retreat pool, they were very deep and didn't allow people less than 6' tall to touch bottom very often.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Did not attend a stage show, but the musicians in the Piazza were top-notch.

Children's Programs

Did not travel with children

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Service across the board was very good.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Well maintained and clean if a bit dated. The only drawback is that the Allegro dining room on deck 6 is not directly accessible from the rest of deck 6.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Very clean and roomy. Bed was very comfortable, but a firm pillow option would have been nice.

Ship tip

Do not miss the mixologist shows in the Good Spirits at Sea bar. It's a good show but, more importantly, they make the best cocktails on the ship (and they are included in the drinks package).

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

3 out of 5

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

4 out of 5
Amber Cove was nice enough, but was designed and built by Carnival, Princess' parent corporation and was really just another private island type port.

Grand Turk Island

4 out of 5
Grand Turk is also a port built by Carnival and, like Amber Cove, is pretty much another private island. At least at Grand Turk there is the opportunity to walk down the beach off the port property and do a little exploring. I would highly recommend Jack's Shack for cracked conch and conch fritters.
