Review summary

We were very impressed with this Fall Foliage Cruise. Can't say enough about our Penthouse Suite and the impeccable service on this beautiful vessel! Will definitely do a "repeat" performance on this Itinerary, but will make it a longer cruise...disembarking in Montreal!

Embarkation

Embarkation was a breeze! We did receive our Medallions in advance, so we just walked right on board. Very smooth.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We had the unique experience of The Chef's Table Lumiere! It was extraordinary and we felt quite fortunate to have been 2 of the 12 participants. Executive Chef Oprea Barbu and Maitre d' Hotel Ignazio D'Agostino hosted the evening. The Galley Tour was enlightening...followed by dinner and wine at the Chef's Round Table. Highly recommend! We also dined 3 times at The Crown Grill. Steaks and Chops cooked to absolute perfection. We are fussy about how our meat is prepared and The Crown Grill never failed. We went to Sabatini's for dinner twice. Over the top fresh Pasta dishes and the Sole Picatta, prepared as requested. We were in a Penthouse Suite, which allowed us to have breakfast each morning in Sabatini's, which was lovely. Away from the crowds! Each morning started with a delicious Mimosas, served complimentary. Breakfast cooked exactly to order. The Club Class dining option was also nice. On an unexpected Sea Day, we lunched at the Ocean Seafood Bar, which was superb. The sushi was screaming fresh! Loved the Oyster Shooters and Ahi Poke. Presentation was beautiful. Pizza at Alfredo's was also excellent. Service everywhere was outstanding! We never did eat at the Horizon Buffet.

Wheelhouse Bar (Pub Lunch)

This was our "go to" Evening Cocktail Lounge. Live music in the evenings added to the ambiance.

Onboard Activities

The Fitness Center...first class! The Lotus Spa...first class. I went down to the Enclave in the Lotus Spa daily and relaxed. I had 2 massages on our week cruise. Delly was fantastic!

Entertainment

We loved all the shows! Only missed the Comedian on one evening. Really professional staging, costumes, stories. The Shows made each evening very special!

Children's Programs

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our Cabin Steward, Ronald Balita, was terrific! He rapidly figured out our pattern, making us feel very comfortable throughout the week-long cruise. We had excellent service from so many of the ship's personnel. Laxman, Roland, Bojo, to name a few. Cristina, in the Concierge Lounge, produced magic for us. She was very instrumental in getting us into The Chef's Table Lumiere! Genius! Cristina took care of so many other things for us, thereby never having to stand in line at the Front Desk. So easy!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Having read many reviews about the Regal Princess, I was expecting to see a little tired around the edges. However, I found the ship's condition to be very well maintained and clean. The focus on hand washing is brilliant.

Cabin / Stateroom

We loved, loved, loved our Aft Penthouse Suite! We had a wrap-around Balcony which was huge. The 2 room Cabin was very spacious. Loved having the bathtub and separate shower. Nice to have 2 sinks in two separate bathroom areas. Tons of closet storage! It was a treat to have fresh orchids and fruit basket in our cabin, as well as a fully stocked mini-frig. Princess didn't leave anything out!

Ship tip

If you are able to book a Penthouse Suite...do it!

Ports of call

New York, New York

5 out of 5
We spent a week in Manhattan, before we boarded the Regal Princess. Saw 6 fantastic Broadway Shows. We love NYC! Shows, restaurants and shopping! Lots to do in NY.

Newport, Rhode Island

5 out of 5
Having been to Newport, RI in the past a few times, we have toured most of the popular Summer Cottages! This time, we took the Doris Duke, Rough Point, Tour. The mansion was gorgeous. We thoroughly enjoyed our Tour Guide who offered lots of history and stories about Doris Duke. The Sunday we were in Newport, there was a Seafood Festival, which we walked around and dined on the most delicious Lobster Bisque and Lobster Roll.

Boston, Massachusetts

5 out of 5
Having been to Boston, many times, we did not take an excursion. We just took a taxi to Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market and walked around. We had lunch at the Union Oyster House, which is a Boston Institution. Made reservations before the trip.

Bar Harbor, Maine

5 out of 5
Beautiful Port! We took a small Group Tour of 14 which toured around Bar Harbor and into Acadia National Park to the top of Cadillac Mountain. Stunning views! Loved being in a small group. Our Guide was terrific. He recommended lunch at Galyn's, which was fabulous. He definitely steered us in the right direction! The Fall Colors were vibrant! Will definitely return to Bar Harbor!

Saint John, New Brunswick Did not visit port

Due to weather and storm conditions, we did not visit Saint John. Captain Springer made a couple of attempts to get into Saint John. However it just wasn't possible. So we had a Sea Day instead, which was just perfect!

Halifax, Nova Scotia

5 out of 5
Halifax is also a lovely Port. Walking all along the Waterfront...lots of shops and eateries. We walked from the Port to The Citadel which had magnificent views of Halifax. The weather was perfect. We dined at The Five Fisherman, where we shared a Lobster Roll and Haddock Fish & Chips. Both were excellent. The Lobster Roll was the best I've ever had. Lobster, Lobster, Lobster! We also visited the Maritime Museum which was fascinating. Great layout. Lots of history about The Titanic. We thoroughly enjoyed Halifax!

Disembarkation

Easy! Very organized. We used Luggage Forward to ship our luggage from our home, directly to the ship and back. The Luggage Forward Agent was waiting outside to pick up our bag for transport. Highly recommend using Luggage Forward!!
