Review summary

After hearing horror stories, I expected worse, but my wife and I only managed to charge $1100 on the ship (after excursions). We had all the wine, steak, gelato, souveniers, and soft drinks we needed. Could have spent a lot more, but there was no need. I am amazed at how well organized everything was. There were lines sometimes for excursions, but the longest was about five minutes. That was when the train carrying the 1500 people that took the Berlin train came back. Our grandkids (8, 12, and 14) said they had a great time. Much better than a Carnival Caribbean trip they were on.

Ship tip

Get ready to walk. This is a huge ship. But explore all that you can and find the places or activities that you enjoy.

Ports of call

Copenhagen, Denmark

We spent three days before departure at the Skt Petri and highly recommend it. We walked all over using the pedestrian streets that are next to the hotel.

Oslo, Norway

Very nice, prosperous town. Took the Best of... tour here and in most other ports.

Warnemunde (Berlin), Germany

Our favorite port due to all the history we know about Berlin. The train ride is two hours or a little more so bring a book. Saw Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie, Allied museum, etc. Lunch at the Hilton was super.

Tallinn, Estonia

4 out of 5
Quaint old cobblestoned town. Do the excursion to Rakvere to see some of the countryside and visit a castle run by a little town, not a big corporation. Lunch was a country style pork stew, bread, and a salad really from a garden.

St. Petersburg, Russian Federation

4 out of 5
The only place we visited where they checked our passports. Don't bother smiling at the officers. Also, the only place where people did not speak much English. Be prepared for sign language if you want to buy something. We enjoyed Peterhof and its fantastic grounds the most.

Helsinki, Finland

Small neat city. Porvoo was worth doing to see the country and have an excellent lunch at a country inn.

Stockholm, Sweden

Get a balcony room just to enjoy the several hour cruise up and down the gorgeous fjord. Our huge ship was within a couple of hundred feet of beautiful islands and the people enjoying them.

Love the Regal Princess have sailed on her twice. I got hooked on the gelato. I think I tried all the flavors.
