Review summary

As a first experience we might have been better off picking another cruise line. The QM2 tries to be a bit stuffy (dress code etc...) and it apparently does attract a much older crowd. The Norway landscape was beautiful and this was a nice way to experience the key parts of the country...on a ship vs driving.

Embarkation

Well organized.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Main dining room food was ok to good. Kings Court buffets had a wide selection which was generally good. Alcoholic drinks were on the expensive side.

Onboard Activities

Entertainment

Children's Programs

no children

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All the staff and the service was excellent except for one incident with the Pursor's office staff. Most of the staff are from the Philippines and work hard. They see their families maybe once a year. We enjoyed interacting with them.

Ship Quality

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Overall the cabin was good. Having a non sheltered stateroom would have allowed us to sit on the balcony and actually see over the railing. There were areas on the balcony structure that needed maintenance (significant corrosion on the lower part of the door to the balcony).

Ship tip

The bulk of the customers on the ship were 60+ years old in my estimation...we are in are mid 60's as well. Few children and few younger couples. If you like travelling with mostly older people, this is the ship for you. I personally would have preferred a more evenly distributed age group. Who wants to travel on a floating old folks home?

Ports of call

Hamburg, Germany

3 out of 5
This was our starting and ending point. The port is heavily industrialized.

Bergen, Norway

Flaam, Norway

Stavanger, Norway

Great oil museum within walking distance of our berth. Highly recommend anyone to visit it.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
A bit chaotic in that we were told to assemble at a site only to be told by a staff member when we got there that the site was off limits to passengers. Otherwise, easy on, easy off. The luggage was taken on and off the ship by staff.

I Agee totally with you, we have cruised many times with Cunard, we tried P & O for that very same reason.....however, we 'tried' Norwegian Cruise Lines last year and it was a game changer in every way, we found the same standard of food, the ships ( we have done two and are about to do a third) were great and the entertainment was fantastic. I urge you, if you ever do a cruise again, take a look at this cruise line 🌞🛳
