A disorganized ship with a complete lack of leadership on the part of the officers. A kitchen that needs to be completely restaffed with chefs that can cook.
Embarkation
3 out of 5
The disorganization began with the embarkation process. There were no clear signs posted. The people in the terminal could not provide clear directions. After requesting that you complete a series of forms, no one actually checked most of them.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
1 out of 5
After more than 50 cruises, the dining experience on the Queen Elizabeth was the worst I have ever encountered. Most dishes were lukewarm at best in the main dining room and the Lido. Dinner in the main dining room took over two and half hours some nights with no explanation given for what was taking so long. In the Lido, serving platters would sit empty on the serving line for long periods. There was a clear lack of variety on offer. For some reason, the only hot cereal on offer in the Lido for 16 days was porridge. Never once was oatmeal offered in the Lido even though it was available in the main dining room. Gala night dinners were nothing special, Judy more of the same unimaginative food served the other nights. None of the dishes reflected the region of the world we were sailing in.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
The onboard activities were basically the same each and every day. Trivia, exercise classa and dance lessons.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
The production cast was outstanding and the musicians in the orchestras were good. The other musicians were fair to good. The harpist played like she had never seen the music she was playing before. The other entertainment was hit or miss.
Children's Programs
No children in our party.
Service and Staff
1 out of 5
For the first time on any cruise, the Captain never made an appearance at any function or was ever seen walking around the ship. Likewise for the rest of the senior officers (3 stripes and above). Did not get as much as a hello from any senior rep of the crew. The only time senior officers were seen about the ship is when they were on dates with their partners. Likewise the interaction with the crew were also limited with usually just a polite hello and not much more. I must point out that the room steward did an outstanding job on our cabin. He certainly deserves 5 stars. But he is the only one.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
The ship was kept very clean. But although the decor is in good condition, the design certainly shows the age of the ship. The low ceilings and lack of open spaces shows the age pretty badly.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
The cabin was perhaps a touch larger than average as was the balcony. The cabin is pretty comfortable overall. Even the dreaded shower curtain was not too much of an issue. The cabin was cleaned twice a day and was sparkling clean
Ship tip
This was my first and last Cunard cruise. The lack of visibility of the officers reflected down through the crew. Evey event was a result of poor planning and execution. This cruise would be a poor excuse for a cruise on its own merits, but when you compare it to the peer cruise lines like Celebrity or Holland or Princess then it gets even worse. Post pandemic cruising is not what it used to be before but Cunard's peers have done dramatically better than Cunard is doing on the Queen Elizabeth. Never again.
The final disorganized event of the cruise. There were no announcements and then what information was shared was wrong, like the location of the gangway.
