Review summary

This is our 50th cruise and our third on Royal Caribbean. We prefer the design and layout of Princess ships with a central atrium which resembles a palace or a Roman colosseum which makes you feel special. However on Quantum we felt like we were spending our days in a shopping arcade where you couldn’t see the water. The younger age groups use the pools, rock climbing walls etc but we never use these facilities. There were 5000 passengers on the ship and the buffet always seemed full and hectic. We prefer small ships with less than 2000 passengers. There were no dress standards with some wearing tank tops and thongs in the main dining rooms. No one got dressed up for formal nights so don’t bother taking a suit and tie. The food in the dining room was very good but lunch in the buffet was hit and miss especially the stir fry and stews. Have to commend the staff who were always smiling, polite and helpful. The production shows were very theatrical and very different from other ships. Guest entertainers were very good and the West Indian band playing poolside were fabulous.

Food and Dining

Food in main dining room was very good. Breakfast in Windjammer buffet was ok but lunch was disappointing.

Onboard Activities

Best for the younger crowd.

Entertainment

Stage shows were very arty and theatrical. The West Indian band was great but they were mainly pool side.

Service and Staff

Staff were excellent always polite and helpful.

Ship Quality

I do not like the shopping arcade layout. Always felt like in a shopping centre. I prefer the central atrium of Princess ships which make you feel like your special being in a palace or a Roman collosseum.

Cabin / Stateroom

Ship tip

Average age on the ship was about 45. There were lots of parties for younger age groups. If you are in the 70s age group, like dressing up and dancing then this is not the ship for you. We prefer the older Princess ships but this is personal preference.

Thank you for sharing your cruise experience with us and including the details too. We're smaller ship and less children focused cruise fans too.

Sounds like a big change from what you like. We enjoy Princess too, for all the reasons you stated
