Review summary

Another incredible RCI cruise in the history books. Star Class was a splurge but so worth it! Will it be a every time thing..... no. Every few years as a treat, yes!

Embarkation

1 out of 5
Horrible. The Port of Vancouver needs to hire some people with a bit of professionalism. Many we encountered were rude and would not listen to a question before waving us on. Star Class meant nothing here.... all the star class guests were having the same experience. What an embarrassment for RCI.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We did not utilize the MDR at all this cruise and only visited the Windjammer for snacks. The Costal Kitchen and all specialty dining venues met or exceeded our expectations. Chef's Table was a fun experience as well. Chops, Jamie's and Izumi all served quality and tasty food with top notch service.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We loved North Star, the spa services, gaming and lounge activities.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
There were some really good shows, bands and performers and some truly mediocre ones as well. If someone can explain what I was supposed to get out of Starwater, I'd be happy. It seemed a waste of top notch talent and technology. The galley tour and brunch were a nice touch and enjoyed by our group.

Children's Programs

Did not travel with children

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our Genie, Nicol was amazing! From pre cruise communications to greeting us after clearing security during the embarkation fiasco through assisting us with collecting our luggage as we departed, he left us wanting for nothing. We had so many wonderful crew interactions from Luzy (we wanted to bring her home with us) and Margaret's entire team at Costal Kitchen to our room attendants Javi and Jesus, the casino hosts and attendants and many more that I'm forgetting..... truly a WOW experience.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship was well maintained and very clean. The layout was new to me as this was my first time on a Quantum Class ship. Overall, I liked it. The only real negative to me was how far the star class suites and suite lounge are from the elevators and rest of the main ships venues and features. The price you pay for the spectacular aft views I guess. The exercise made me feel less guilty for enjoying too much delicious food. Liked the feel of the Royal Esplanade and Via.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
A beautiful suite (approx. 695 sf. not counting the balconies) with two 3/4 baths (no tubs), 3 balconies (large aft and two smaller side, one on each level) and the spacious living space, this room left us wanting only more time at sea. It may get crowded with four guests with the loft configuration but it worked great for our group of three. The cabin is showing a bit of ware as it's 8 years old but everything functioned as expected and our room attendants kept it spotless, checking in multiple times a day.

Ship tip

Great ship with a wonderful variety of indoor and outdoor activities. Perfect for cruising in beautiful warm to more questionable climates.

Ports of call

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

We embarked from here so really only utilized our hotel the evening before we sailed.

Victoria, British Columbia

We took a 4 hour city and garden tour in a Bently that we found on Viator. It was excellent!

Lahaina, Maui

4 out of 5
Lahina was beautiful and bustling. It was incredibly warm both days we were anchored in the harbor. The tender process, operated by RCI with life boats left much to be desired and was incredibly disorganized. Unfortunately that did cloud our impression of the port. We really did enjoy our time while ashore. Getting to and from was a different story.

Honolulu, Oahu

4 out of 5
It's a tropical city. We did visit the USS Missouri with friends that we made aboard the ship. Again, it was hot and humid but the port itself had a lot to offer.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Traveling in Star Class made disembarkation a breeze. Our Genie met us in our room around 9:30 am and escorted us off the ship to the luggage pick up where we bid him farewell. Transportation at this port was a nightmare but from what I observed, there weren't a lot of options to improve it.
