Can't see out of windows by Seangill

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

Just returned from cruise in Hawaii after avain choosing NCL after a fun time last year out of Miami.

What a difference. We paid a premium for a window room for viewing the islands but the windows on this boat (not only in the room  but all over the boat) are so bad you can't see out of them. Feel totally ripped off and disappointed and will definitely itely impact who we choose to cruise with next time. We tried to upgrade to a different room and got the run around for 2 days and gave up. Lovely islands by you will need to go on deck to see them!!! My advice...do not waste your money on cabins with windows.

Always something to do! by blackbeltartist

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

There was always something to do! Really great entertainment. The staff was phenomenal - never impatient, always pleasant and helpful. It would have been nice if all restaurants were included in the package and/or drinks were included with the package.  The costs really add up when you're ther for a week.however, I completely enjoyed it and would recommend it highly. The ship was clean and comfortable. It would have been nice if there was a pool for adults only. There were always kids splashing around and making noise.

My first cruise... by shirleygoodb

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

Having never cruised before, I was excited to see the entire process.  I should have asked for wheelchair help since I am still recovering from having both hips replaced.  (Standing in line to check in, and board was tiresome.)  The biggest disappointment was that my room was on the last floor cleaned.  I know someone has to be last and this time it was me.  The cleaning crew were great.  They were very professional and kind.  The food was super.  The waiters were really great.  They remembered us and we enjoyed our time with them.  One time I sat at a "handicap" table at the buffet and was "mildly scolded".  I don't look "handicapped" but if you watch me walk you would see the issue.   The entertainment was very nice, with a very family friendly theme.  The crafts were lots of fun.  We have been able to impress friends back home with our new skills., Thank you for making my first cruise so special.

This was our first NCL... by scrappybug

Sail date: /
Ship: Pride of America

This was our first NCL cruise. We'd heard bad things about the food, but overall it was pretty good. We found the warm desserts in the buffet were usually way better than in the dining room. But that's not to say the dining room ones were bad. Just not our choice. Our cabin was very nice, but seemed smaller than most balcony cabins we've had. When we looked out at the balcony, all was made clear. The balcony was twice as long as we've ever seen. There was room for two chaise loungers, two chairs with footstools and two small tables. Our only real disappointment with the ship was our cabin steward. Usually, our stewards know our names and call us by name every time they see us. This steward was friendly, when we did see her. But we rarely saw her. We had to ask for robes, room service menus, laundry bags, and an extra blanket, twice. About excursions. We do our own. Highly recommend Ocean Lava Tours in Hilo to boat to watch the lava flow into the sea. We rented a car. Did the 1100 tour and made it back in time to have a cocktail before the ship sailed. The Backcountry Tubing tour in Kauai was great. We took a cab and saved about $40 each off ship price.

Cruise tour by tolhurs233

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

We spent 3 days on land before cruise and it was great.  Our tour guide for all 3 days was the best.  Seeing Pearl Harbor was an experience.  Boarding the ship was very easy.  The organization on the ship was very good.  Never had any trouble boarding or disembarking the ship at ports.

Only disappointment was missing the Port of Kona but that was due to weather which no one has control over that.  We did some great scenic cruising that day instead.  Entertainment was good and meals were good also.  Many dining venues available.  Would recommend this cruise.

NCL Pride of America Worth It! by RobM99

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

NCL did a bang up job on this cruise. The service and the food were excellent. We had some of the best waiters we've ever had. The ship was in great shape and very clean. The onboard activities were plenty and fun. The ability to go to 4 islands and spend two days each on Maui and Kauai made the ports that much better.  I had no suggestions to NCL as we are very pleased. I can see us taking this cruise again some day.Happy

Great ship to do Hawaii. Such an incredible picturesque place! Food was great! Hilo volcano was super active! Great excursions! What a way to spend a week away from the cold. Nice change for us from the Caribbean.

Great Cruise by louandmeg

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

We wanted to see as much as we could with our short time in Hawaii.  We took NCL's cruise-tour.  Three day add on at the beginning of the trip.  The top was worth every penny.  What we learned about Hawaii was amazing.  If you can spare the time and money it is a must do.  The cruise was great the food was good.  Don't over due it, take the second say to chill, and see the city.Happy

Hawaiian Cruise by sxmn1954

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

The size of the room and balcony was small, but made it work.  The WiFi was disappointing; it took us a bit to figure out how to use it, waste of money, being I purchased unlimited.  My biggest disappointment was how I was treated during an excursion, We purchased most everything through you guys; but changed our mind on the big island tour out of Kona, where we chose to do our own, because it was something you did not offer.  We chose to do a 2 hour helicopter flight and yes you where tendering, but they didn't care if we made it in time, because it was not through you....very sad considering I spent as much money on that cruise as the next person.  So, will consider other sources for our entertainment.  Kathy

Great cruising experience! by CCNMB

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

i was really apprehensive about this trip after reading some of the terrible reviews. I can not understand what people were possibly unhappy with on this ship. The cruise staff was fabulous. The itinerary was extraordinary ! The ship was updated beautifully! The food choices were abundant and delicious. Embarkation was a bit tedious but not as bad as some other cruises I have taken. I had never cruised Norwegian but have booked for 2 more cruises after the great experience I had on the Pride of America.

Doing Pride cruise #5 in... by 66gt350ps

Sail date: /
Ship: Pride of America

Doing Pride cruise #5 in Fall and cannot wait. I am a life long resident who has lived on each island for a time. A tip for cruises in next few weeks, a lot of volcano land and air tours are cut back or cancelled due to current erruption. Fumes are deadly and area residents are struggling to evacuate in the affected areas. Activity desk can let you know if you will have a chance to see anything. Lots of other things to see and do around Hilo.

This was the BEST cruise ever!  It also is the best way to see Hawaii for the first time.  Shore Excursions were excellent, food was excellent, and service was excellent.  I really would be hard pressed to find something to complain about.

My Hawaiian cruise in October... by PeteMcK

Sail date: /
Ship: Pride of America

My Hawaiian cruise in October 2016 was my first ever cruise. I loved it! The ship itself was terrific. There were plenty of bars and restaurants. The staff were wonderful and I am still friends with a couple of them. Can certainly recommend Norwegian on my experience.

Excellent way to see the Hawaii islands on a wonderful ship by lindiloo65

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

I loved every part of the cruise. Embarkation was smooth, cabin nice with exception of view but had obstructed view, food was delicious, crew and staff all friendly with exception of room service who was rude. Overall a great vacation and great way to see the islands.

This is by far the... by tomandkarenboptonlinenet

Sail date: /
Ship: Pride of America

This is by far the best way to get a feel for all of the islands so that you can go back and visit your fav in the future. Ship was okay. There was a smell in some parts of the ship. We smelled it on the deck 8. If I had a room near that smell I would have complained big time. The food was good. Best place to eat breakfast is on deck 12 but at the rear of the ship. Wish we discovered that sooner. We enjoyed the 50'cafe that was open 24 hours. My husband loved the wings there. We only ate one sit down dinner. Definitely rent a car on Maui, Hilo and Kauai. Do some research and explore on your own. We biked down Mt Haleakala, but we booked it ourselves and did the midday tour on the second day in Maui. We skipped the road to Hana and explores beaches on our own and rented snorkel equipment from Snorkel Bobs that we used all week. Definitely stay extra in Oahu. Visit Pearl Harbor. Check out Diamond Head and the North Shore. Wish we had snorkeled at Hanauma Bay. We stayed at Hilton Hawaiian Village. It is huge with a resort feel.

Much better than the reviewsFar too expensive by BronandFrank

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

This was the first time my husband and I had been on a cruise, and was not looking forward to it.  We went to celebrate my sister's birthday.  After reading the reviews I was even more scared about how we were going to manage!  Well, we had a sensational time and thoroughly enjoyed it.  The dining was fantastic, the buffet OK, but the other complimentary restaurants were as good as the best restaurants in Melbourne, Australia (which is known in Australia for it's incredible dining)  The staff were exemplary, always polite, helpful and engaging.  Nothing was a bother. The only negatives were the prices of the alcohol, super high pricing.  Our duty free alcohol was confiscated and we had to pick up at the end of the cruise.  Also the cost of the tours was exceptionally high- we ended up using taxi's that greeted you when disembarking from the boat, sometimes at 50% cheaper or more. We found everything to be clean and comfortable. Although we found the 7 days long enough, we still really enjoyed the trip.  It was a great way to see the other islands.

Freestyle Cruising = flexible & fun by Cinder66

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

I loved the freestyle approach. Multiple dining options from casual to more formal- eat where you want, when you want and with who you want. Cruising your way. And the cruise was a great option to visit multiple islands in one trip. We did something really different every day and loved it.
