Fun family cruise but saw no glaciers. The ship was fun but needs more crew for better service. by jcarlw

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Ovation of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Had a great family vacation experience, but limited on what we actually got to see and experience. Wild life sightings were very limited with less than 10 whales, 5 eagles, no bears, etc. If you really want to see glaciers, consider another cruise that visits Glacier Bay. Dawes is hit or miss due to weather, location and ice in the water. Ship needs more crew to work in venues and restaurants, but that was expected. Overall, we had a very nice and relaxing time but expected more to be honest. Probably one of the few folks to ever take an Alaskan cruise to never see a glacier!!!

Enjoyable but could have been better by lindastate

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Ovation of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Skagway was hands down the best part of the trip. The ship was excellent (other than hard mattresses which no one in my group enjoyed). Room attendant was great. Rest of staff were excellent. Wish there were more options for entertainment like music more relaxing, movies held inside instead of on deck (too cold and windy). WHY are there virtually No sugar-free options available for diabetics? What was available was really good, but extremely limited on choices. Also, we lost Juneau as a port of call when a crewmember had an accident and the ship had to be re-routed to get close enough for a med-helicopter to come pick him up. The supposed compensation was an extra couple of hours on other port stops. We got into Juneau six hours late and were there literally long enough to get off the ship, then turn around and get back on. No mention of any kind of partial reimbursement from the cruise line, nothing like a free spa visit, NOTHING! I had fun on the trip, but it wasn't worth what it cost.

This was a trip of a lifetime for my husband. This is not like other cruises, such as a party cruise but it was enjoyable and everyone was so nice and pleasant.

Good cruise, unexpected issues by labs2black

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ovation of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Unfortunate unexpected issues that are rare occurrences on this particular trip, no ones fault, handled with everyone's health and wellbeing in mind. Cruise ship, Captain, and Crew, were exceptional. I would highly recommend it to anyone. I may even consider doing it again at some future date

Not what I expected by hhuynh22

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ovation of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Overall experience on the boat was not what I expected. There were a bunch of issues from spotty internet service and malfunctioning restroom. The sights at each destination was breathtaking.

Adventure on the inside passage. by ephchar9

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ovation of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

I would never cruise out of this port again the embarkation took several hours. The restaurant’s were not prepared for vegetarians and the show’s were mediocre at best. I love cruising on the Oasis but will never cruise on the Ovation of the Seas again.

For the money we paid, and upgraded, this was not a satisfying cruise as we expected more from Royal. If you'd like additional information, feel free to call us. Thank you

Average experience by kmbox32

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

Love the location and our room was nice. Windjammer buffet was disappointing. I feel like there could have been additional shows/acts in the theater.

First Alaska Cruise by JackieAKW

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Ovation of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Cruising to Alaska was new for us. We were not sure how cold it would be but we packed appropriately for May. The passage and ports were just beautiful and we are glad we went. The ship was either at or close to capacity but it never felt really crowded. They limited the number of people in the Windjammer and you had to wash your hand before entering which was actually a really good thing. Plenty of hand sanitizer stations all over the ship too. This ship also had two indoor pool areas which is great for the Alaska climate.

Ship not ready....crew not ready...guests not happy! by DeniseSikes

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Ovation of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Overall Lackluster performance. There was Good. There was Bad. There was Ugly. The crew was mostly untrained and severely understaffed. The captain was Meh... The Cruise Director... B-. Alaska was the star and that saved the cruise from being a complete waste. For the first time I felt "lied-to" based on all the different stories told about where our luggage tags were and who was responsible to get them to us. We also were told there were just a few cases of Covid onboard, where I am quite certain the number was north of 300! We heard from the medical staff they were overwhelmed. If you asked for a Covid test it took almost all day to get it and receive the results. (Happened to a friend onboard.) I wore my mask continuously if I was not in my cabin. But unlike other cruises where masks were optional and the Covid cases were rising, we were NOT instructed to start wearing masks indoors. We also had one death onboard, but that occurred the morning of disembarkation.

Worst food ever!!!! by TexasCruisers06

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Ovation of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Ship is beautiful, but the food was the worst I have ever had on a cruise ship, and we have been on 64 cruises. Don't waste your time on specialty restaurants, my steakhouse steak was horrible, it tasted like wild boar!! Ship staff were very nice, but most were still learning their jobs. I think they will improve! The piano player, Tim, is very good. All of the Alaska ports were great!!

Trip with challenges by sarumkd

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Ovation of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Glad I went but the ship is dated, offerings on board are limited for a cruise that may keep one inside due to weather, I didnt plan to have to be on a moving mall. No interesting on board activities ... staff were preoccupied with the fact this was a last cruise for the season and rather detached from service.

Amazing Alaska Cruise by maryhennecke

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ovation of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We did a seven night cruise to Alaska and stopped at some of the most beautiful places. We felt the safety standards on the Ovation were sufficient and we had a fantastic time. Literally the ONLY complaint would be that we could have used 2-3 hours more in Juneau.
