Review summary

Skagway was hands down the best part of the trip. The ship was excellent (other than hard mattresses which no one in my group enjoyed). Room attendant was great. Rest of staff were excellent. Wish there were more options for entertainment like music more relaxing, movies held inside instead of on deck (too cold and windy). WHY are there virtually No sugar-free options available for diabetics? What was available was really good, but extremely limited on choices. Also, we lost Juneau as a port of call when a crewmember had an accident and the ship had to be re-routed to get close enough for a med-helicopter to come pick him up. The supposed compensation was an extra couple of hours on other port stops. We got into Juneau six hours late and were there literally long enough to get off the ship, then turn around and get back on. No mention of any kind of partial reimbursement from the cruise line, nothing like a free spa visit, NOTHING! I had fun on the trip, but it wasn't worth what it cost.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Main dining was really nice. Service outstanding. But if you are diabetic you will find VERY few sugar free options. Only in main dining and limited options there (but what was available was good). Buffet food was plentiful but dry. Breakfast at buffet was excellent.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Spa was good. North Star gondola was interesting. Movies should have been held at the indoor theater. Just too cold and windy to be shown outdoors. Need to have variations of concerts....everything was too loud and Las Vegas type music.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Live, Love, Legs—-WAY too loud! People around me (including one in my group) got up and left due to headache level loudness. Entertainment mostly geared toward Las Vegas-type music. I was wanting to find alternatives. Like dixieland, country and western, classical, etc.

Children's Programs

no kids

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
EXCELLENT services from beginning to end of cruise.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Clean and very well maintained

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin was small but was comfortable. Impressed with how nice bathroom was. Cabin steward was the best!

Ship tip

Be aware the mattresses are HARD. As in the firmest I have ever experienced. If you are used to softer bedding you might not be comfortable.

Disembarkation

Hectic but ok
