Review summary

This was a glacier cruise but we did not get to see the glacier. Captain decided to skip due to weather but did not care to inform the guests who got up at 5.30 am to see the glacier and were waiting for 2 hrs before the crew told us we were already in Juneau and the captain had decided to skip Endicott!!

Embarkation

Communication problem between and Royal Caribbean delayed embarkation. 2 of our party who had booked a balcony were not on the list at all and one was missing from another room!

In consideration of Mendenhall glacier recently melting at a rate that baffled climatologists, along with other climate change related disasters I would imagine that to err on the side of caution would be wise. I would prefer the captains main concern would be the safety of his passengers and the vessel. We're sailing in October and I am looking forward to Alaska and BC, if we skip a Glacier then I'd see it as dodging a bullet

I suppose that missing out on seeing glaciers on an Alaska cruise can be disappointing, but passenger, crew and ship safety will always outweigh seeing glaciers. I'm assuming if something went wrong on way to see glaciers and the captain decided glaciers were more important than safety, you would be complaining about that too. In addition, your cruise contract that you probably didn't read explains that itineraries can be changed at any time due to weather, or other situations.

We were on that cruise. We were so surprised when we could see Juneau and had not told we skipped the Glacier. I get that we have to do the safe thing, but seeing the glacier was the whole reason we booked this cruise.
