Ovation of the Seas

7 Night Alaska Glacier (Seattle Roundtrip)

Sail date: July 19, 2019

Ship: Ovation of the Seas

Traveled as: Singles/Friends

Reviewed: 4 years ago

Review summary

July was the perfect date. Capris or jeans & a T-shirt were perfect ! I highly recommend the train ride for the relaxing scenic tour. Everyone enjoyed the whale watching & we tasted the best salmon ever ! The glacier tour was breathtaking ! If you like different - try the Alice in Wonderland specialty dining. One of a kind dining for sure. The ship was so large you never felt crowded.

We did Alaska on the Ovation on July 25, 2019, and just used layers, never needed heavy parkas. It was nice to have knit caps to keep ears warm on deck on the glacier day. A waterproof windbreaker is probably more key to have than a big heavy coat. It does rain in the ports on and off. It also of course depends on your excursions. If you are heading up on a glacier or to the sled dogs (in the snow), you’ll need the more heavy duty stuff. Otherwise, you can skip it. I recommend: lightweight long sleeve under layer, fleece jackets, waterproof windbreakers, a knit hat and definitely sunglasses. A very lightweight scarf can be nice even for wearing indoors. We never needed gloves.

We will be cruising on June 26. Did you ever need heavy coats or just layers ? Would you recommend any of the other specialty restaurants? TIA
