We chose this cruise because the six port stops were very good choices. It did not disappoint.

Ports of call

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

Rome is very crowded. The Vatican had a line with thousands of people. I went to the S. Maria Maggiore Basilica four blocks west of the Stazione Termini. Absolutely fabulous. Less than 50 people inside. Free. The artwork is likely worth several billion dollars.

Naples, Italy

The Amalfi coast is crowded but well worth it.

Piraeus (Athens), Greece

Took a chance by taking a ferry boat to the island of Aegina. If we missed the ferry back, we would have missed our cruise ship. Rented a car and visited the Temple of Aphaia. A smaller version of the Acropolis. Stunning views of neighboring islands. Three people onsite when we arrived. Avance Car rental was super helpful. Rent from them.

Kusadasi (Ephesus), Turkey

Ephesus is very crowded but well worth it.

Santorini, Greece

Oia Town very crowded. Long wait for tram from Fira Town down to Fira port. If you are in good shape, the 500 plus steps down to the port is a better alternative to the tram. Watch out for donkeys and donkey poop if you do this.

Mykonos, Greece

5 out of 5
Got one of the few available taxis out to Paraga Beach. Very pleasant. Nicholas' taverna reasonable and very nice. Snorkeled (brought own gear).

Souda (Chania), Crete

3 out of 5
Cruise port bus drops you off about a half mile from port area. Not enough time to really do this port.

We did this itinerary last year. Loved the ports but definitely found the quality of food in the MDR below par.
