Review summary

Overall, we enjoyed our first cruise. We will do another cruise in the future, when the Icon of the Seas officially sets sail.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation day was wonderful.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The main dining rooms, specialty restaurants and buffets were wonderful. The food was tasty and there were several options to choose from in all restaurants.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We visited the pool, which the kids love. My only gripe is that the adult pools are too small to enjoy, for such a large quantity of cruisers. Also, you have to get to the pools early to reserve lounge chairs for your family. In addition, I had a wonderful Swedish massage from the Vitality Spa, and loved their smoothies.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Entertainment was just ok. We wish the nightclub played more Afro-beats music, instead of only techno, and latin music

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
My kids LOVED the Adventure Ocean club, the activities and staff. We loved it because it enabled us to have adult time, while I kids played and met new friends.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff deserves 10/10 stars. They were such a friendly, attentive, socialable and knowledgeable staff.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ships layout and design was beautiful. The crew did an excellent job keeping it clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The overall comfort, size and cleanliness of our cabin was wonderful and conducive to our needs.

Ship tip

I would bring a case of water, capri suns for the kids to avoid buying the beverage package. I heard many people complaining that the sodas were flat and the package price was too expensive and did not equate to the amount of drinks they consumed.

Ports of call

Cape Liberty (Bayonne), New Jersey

5 out of 5
Embarkation day was quick and swift. Getting on the ship took my family of 6 less than 15 mins.

Port Canaveral, Florida

5 out of 5
We went to Cocoa Beach

Nassau, Bahamas

5 out of 5
Loved meeting the locals, shopping and eating authentic Bahamian food.

Perfect Day At Coco Cay, Bahamas

5 out of 5
We had such a blast at Coco Cay. We loved the beach, and swam with the pigs (excursion).

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

5 out of 5
We loved Labadee. This was the best part of our trip. We did the Labadee Tradition excursions. Loved every moment.

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
This part was a nightmare when you disembark. If you're a T-mobile customer, you will not have network service to call a cab, Uber/Lyft or relative to pick you up. Luckily, many of the porters have cellphone service and will allow you to make a call from their phones. In addition, another plus, many private taxi services walk around asking if you need a ride to your destination to get you going.

You should not be going early to "reserve chairs" by the pool for your family. That is the very reason why there are never any seats available by the pool for anybody else. People who reserve a bunch of seats by the pool are known as "chair-hogs" in some of the online cruise blogs.

I agree they need a variety of music. We prefer quiet instrumental or county. The music is to amplified for the small spaces.
