We had a fantastic time and can't wait to do it again!! This was our first 'mega ship' experience, there were things that we loved and things we didn't love so much but overall it was wonderful and are already trying to decide what to do next..for me anyway, planning is almost as much fun as the actual trip..anyone else agree?? I saw this on my Vacation App today, and it's so true!! "A vacation is like love: anticipated with pleasure, experienced with discomfort, and remembered with nostalgia." Happy Cruising Everyone!!
Embarkation

We received an email the day prior to sailing that our boarding time had been pushed back to 2:30 to 3:30 due to maintenance issues which was no problem for us other than we had to be out of our hotel by noon checkout. Not having anywhere else to really go and being pretty patient people anyway we decided to go ahead and head on to the pier and wait however when we got there they boarded us immediately, there was no wait at all. Couldn't ask for anything better than that!
Ship experiences
Food and Dining

Regarding the food itself, it was good..not great. I do understand it's a huge ship with well over 6,000 people onboard and quality is sometimes going to suffer. We did the MDR for dinner 5 nights, Chops 1 night and Windjammer for the last evening. The MDR had the same staple items each night; sirloin steak, chicken breast, fish and a vegetarian/Indian dish and then there were a couple of additional new items. The same with the appetizers and desserts. Chops was good, not great..maybe I was expecting more, or I am just too picky. For appetizers we ordered the Crab Cakes which were good and the Sweet Bacon, not so good..it was more like a narrow fatty pork chop. The Angus Filet and Creamed Spinach was amazing as was the Key Lime Pie!! But the Gruyere Tater Tots were like battered mashed potato balls? Again, it's just my opinion, I'm sure many will disagree with me and say I'm just too picky and I probably am : ) We loved the Kummelweck (?) sandwiches at Park Café! Great roast beef with au jus on a tasty roll, soo delicious and usually not crowded!! Sorrento's pizza was good, not great. Actually, the toppings were pretty good, they were very generous with the mozzarella cheese but the crust is just meh. We had Johnny Rockets for lunch once, it was good. They use the same burger and fries that is used in the Windjammer but dress them up better, the onion rings and malts are awesome!! I'd have to say that my husbands favorite place of all was the Boardwalk Dog House, he could have eaten there every day! We didn't realize until the last day that they had potato salad, he says it's very good so if you don't see it you should ask for it : )
Onboard Activities

Entertainment

We scheduled a show for each night prior to boarding however only made it to one show, the adult comedy show (which was hi-larious!) I'd never been on a cruise where you had to schedule shows before, usually we'd just show up and it is so much easier that way not having to pre-plan it but I do understand why it is necessary with a ship of this size.

Service and Staff

Simply amazing wait staff, everyone was so friendly and accommodating, in all dining areas we were in everyone went above and beyond to make sure everyone was happy and had what they needed. We were traveling with family and had an always hungry 20 year old with us and without ever asking Jovan our head waiter always knew when to bring him a second plate of something he liked! Our room Steward was Maxine from Jamaica and she was wonderful, she was like magic, always knew when we were coming and going and what we needed before we even did sometimes! We really miss her already, such a sweet and hard working lady! Our favorite lounge was the Schooner Bar, Ricky was our waiter and knew our names and preferred drinks by the second day. Great place to hang out and people watch below on the Promenade!

Cabin / Stateroom

We loved our cabin, it was centrally located on deck 6 in the middle of everything. We had an extended superior view balcony where we spent much time on each day enjoying the beautiful views!
Ship tip
Enjoy and savor every moment, take lots and lots of pictures..you will have so much fun, the time will fly and before you know it the week will be over!!
Absolutely beautiful Port, we did a bus Tour right off of the ship for $25.00 pp which was a great deal. Jose was our tour guide, took us all over the city and stopped at different sites for us to get out and take pictures and explore for a bit before getting back on. Even the poorer parts of San Juan are so beautiful, so colorful with the bluest ocean backdrop..stunning
We originally booked two clamshells then changed our minds and reserved a beach bed instead and were so glad we did! The clamshells were stacked so close one behind the other, if you weren't in the front row all you saw was the back of the one in front of you. The beach beds were spacious and not close together, lots of room in between and came with a cabana boy, towels, cooler stocked with water bottles and float mats..we had a beautiful day, it was perfect! At 1:30 we had to break away for our Dragons Breath Zip Line Excursion which was crazy scary (for me anyway!) but couldn't wait to get back to our beautiful area on the beach..personally I could have skipped the zip line and stayed on the beach and been thrilled : )
Perfect, they have it down to a science..if you self assist anyway as far as we know. Self assist began at 6:45, we left our cabin at around that time and were off the ship by 7:10 and on the road by 7:30.
I to love the planning as much as the going we sailed the oasis last Jan for my husbands 60 th birthday his all time favorite ship. We have cruised a dozen times on R C going in 53 days on the liberty. I’m a far off planner going on the ovation next August to Alaska then in 2020 back on the liberty to celebrate more birthdays.
Happy sailing to every one .
We loved your review!
We cruised on the Oasis in June 2017 and had an absolutely wonderful time. We enjoyed it so much that in December 2017 we booked another cruise on the Lady O for December 16, 2018.
It has been a long countdown but in less than 9 weeks we'll be back!.....
🌴🚢🌴
I posted that once. Yes planning is half the fun. I probably drive my family crazy but they cant complain cause im usually the one paying . So i plan away.
On Oasis I don’t think you can possibly take it all in on a 7 day cruise. Your experience was similar to ours, all of the staff was really great. And you’re right - with close to 6000 guests on board you really are better off considering that you are part of a large floating resort city so picking and choosing among all the choices is going to be key. Sounds like you had a pretty good time at the Oasis Resort!
