Review summary

Forget it-you are wasting hard earned money on this cruise.

Embarkation

2 out of 5
This ship is way over rated! The ship is only 9 yrs old and already shows a lot of signs of wear and tear from poor upkeep and too many passengers for the space. It's impossible to enjoy any of the facilities on this ship because they were not designed for the 4 thousand plus passengers. Yes. it has more staterooms than any other ship-they were going after the greatest bang for their capacity bucks- but they completely failed to provide the same space in their dining rooms, lounges, poolside etc. Everywhere you go on the ship you have to wait in very long lines and then you are not always guaranteed a seat. Never again- smaller ships are much nicer ways to cruise.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
All main dining rooms require long line waits- although the food was good- the entire experience is ruined when you have to wait in lines that are so long they wrap around the corridors where the elevators are located far out into the ships hallways! Horrible way to serve passengers dinner!

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Impossible to enjoy when the lines require a half hour to and hour wait in line!

Entertainment

2 out of 5
shows are available on a maybe wait and see basis-most are filled months before the sail date. Several on our cruise had no availability for a showtime.

Children's Programs

no children

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
The staff lacks the enthusiasm you find on smaller ships. They are over worked with too many passengers.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
Horrible layout-don't get any room that is beyond midship toward the front of the ship. All the main dining areas are clear in the back of the ship and you'll be walking forever just to eat!

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
Cabin was like the rest of the ship overworked from too many passengers and not enough cleaning and upkeep after 9 yrs at sea. Our sofa was badly stained and made a terrible presentation. I'm actually disappointed and disgusted with RCL for the terrible vacation experience we had. It began with poor presentation of the cabin and just went downhill from there. The worst for us is coming home ill with the flu-even our traveling companions got the flu from the ship. This ship had a flu breakout on the sailing before ours and supposedly had to be completely cleaned before it was allowed to sail again. WELL GUESS WHAT-YOUR CLEANING WASN'T THOROUGH ENOUGH!

Ship tip

Don't sail on this ship if you really want a great cruise experience!

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

3 out of 5

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

2 out of 5
This port should be avoided because 95% of this island was destroyed by hurricane Irma and except for main street is still is horrific condition. Shame on RCL for not replacing this stop!

San Juan, Puerto Rico

2 out of 5
Again main street is up and running with major generators but most of the interior of the island is in very poor condition-not an enjoyable trip

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

4 out of 5
Best part of the entire cruise. Took a private excursion into the little town of Labadie and it was very enjoyable to meet the residents and see their show etc.

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
ANother disaster- Its done by the numbers like all cruise lines, but here unfortunately they were only halfway through the disembarkation process of number( only up to 30) by 9AM and a throw you out of your stateroom. We had another hour and fifteen minute wait we were #53 and were told to sit in the theater and wait it out.

I've sailed on both Oasis and Allure and loved the experience both times. One ship was only half full and the other was full and had no problems like you are describing. Going on holiday means chilling out and enjoying the experience no matter what shape it takes.

Sorry to hear you had a terrible cruise. I've sailed her twice and doing Harmony end of February and looking forward to it. Ever think the staff lacked enthusiasm due to you being a Debbie downer? I always say you get what you give!

We sailed on the Oasis January 14th. The cleaning and disinfecting that I saw was the best of any of my 17 cruises. We were never allowed into the Windjammer without using hand sanitizer. They did an outstanding job. We sailed with over 6200 guests on board. We had reservations in the MDR for 5:30 each day and always walk straight in without any lines. Our room, 10717 was in great shape and very clean. We planned ahead and made reservations for all of our shows and had no problem at all getting in and finding good seats. Yes we did get in line 30 minutes before each show but we made the best of it and talked with other guests in line. It really wasn't that bad. I don't think you can blame RCI for the flu outbreak. They did as much has anyone can expect to prevent it. I think the blame lies with the guests themselves. Unfortunately there are people who are sick when they arrive and hide it from the cruise line. There are also people who practice very poor personal hygiene. Don't give up so fast on the big ships. They offer so many more options then the smaller ships.

Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy the Oasis. Different strokes for different folks. Oasis is my favourite of the 6 cruises I have been on. I love the small ships too and I thought it would be crowded. I never felt it was overcrowded as there are so many things going on that people spread out. Loved the food and the shows and the neighborhood concept! So many choices for food that we never had a problem with it being busy at any spot. We waited once for breakfast at Johnny Rockets (free). But we choose a busy time on last sea day so it is what it is and we just grabbed a spot in line and waited patiently and enjoyed the atmosphere of the boardwalk. Hope you find what you are looking for you in future cruises!

Sounds like you should stick with small ships. Most people love that ship. Can't fault the cruise line for the flu. People come onboard already having the virus and spread it throughout the ship. All cruiselines have the same problem every cold and flu season. RC does a great job of trying to keep the flu at bay, same as the other lines. You are just an unhappy person and let everything fester instead of enjoying your vacation.
