Review summary

I would travel on RC again, but not on one of the mega ships. Also, I would avoid Nassau and St. Marteen (unless you go to the French side of the island).

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Easy! Although more information about who boards when would have been helpful.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food was excellent with one exception in the dining room on the second night. Royal Caribbean usually has very good food.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Ship is too large to enjoy many of the activities because of conflicting times, odd locations, and canceled events without notice of cancellation. Main pool was nice, but too crowded and too many people were allowed in at the same time so the pool was over capacity. Lifeguards said nothing. Spa massage was excellent.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
There are two reasons for the three star rating (otherwise, it would have one star) - DNCE concert was awesome and the ice show with the extremely talented sand artist was amazing! Very talented skaters!

Children's Programs

I do not have a young child.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Surprisingly the service was sub-par. We have sailed RC many times and service has always been first-rate, but not on the Oasis of the Seas, which was clearly understaffed. Aldo, unlike past cruises, staff was not very friendly.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Five stars for cleanliness and 1 star for design. Very confusing layout.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Amazing loft suite with fantastic windows that are the height of the two-story cabin! Very quiet, too! We could not hear other passengers and the ship was completely booked. Very roomy for my husband, our teenage son, and me. My son, who usually has to suffer on a sofabed, said this sofabed was actually comfortable.

Ship tip

Make show reservations on-line and do not select the 8:00 pm dining time, because it conflicts with most of the shows.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida Did not visit port

No excursion

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

2 out of 5
Did an excursion called The Race, which was a scavenger hunt. Unfortunately, we waited over an hour after the ticketed time for the excursion to start. Also, we were unprepared for what was expected because information had not been provided ahead of time. For example, a group of three was, apparently, too small for all the tasks, so we had to join another group.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

4 out of 5
No excursion. Very pretty country, but unless you want jewelry, do not bother shopping.

Nassau, Bahamas

1 out of 5
No excursion. Hated this port due to the filthy port and town area, tiny beach area, and extremely aggressive people selling stuff from the minute you leave the ship.

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
Quick, but we did not receive some of the disembarkation benefits of being in a suite that suite passengers usually get. Breakfast on the ship was not served at the places where we were told it would be served. Also, need more signs indicating where to go once you get off the ship.

Traveler Photos

Loft bedroom Bit dark, but dhows the window height. Living/dining area View looking from balcony into the cabin.

Give their Freedom Class ships a try.

We did the Dutch side this year. OK, maybe worth doing once. Next time it will be the French side the whole time. Looking forward to it.
